Wine card

We have just booked a cruise on Rotterdam for Christmas and New year. We last cruised with HAL in 2008, an Alaska cruise which we loved.

 

On that cruise we purchased a "Wine card" which allowed us to have 20 glasses of wine, but did include house champagne. I think it cost about $60 then.

 

Is this still available and if so what does it cost now?

You do have a choice of Beverage Cards in different denominations, starting at $50. There is no bonus value to these cards, but they do allow you to make purchases without keeping track of all those individual service slips; there's one charge for the card that shows on your bill.

 

The Beverage cards allow you to purchase any beverage, from wine and cocktails to specialty coffees, to sodas, with the one card.

We love the Beverage Cards -- even though we do not get any kind of a discount.

But they certainly make it easier to keep track of your shipboard account. Instead of having maybe dozens of bills to keep track of until your final statement, you buy the card and the bar servers just keep subtracting each purchase (along with the 15% gratuity) -- once we get the beverage card bill back, I just throw out the old one.

You can even buy bottles of wine with the card.

I'm not sure I will bother with a beverage card, shame the wine card has gone, it was a really useful thing for us in 2008!!!

 

Still looking forward to my Christmas cruise with Hal.....
