Rare erewhon Posted June 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2014 Thinking of booking a cruise on the Noordam while she is "down under". Checking the deck plans, but do not see a Library, is it situated in the Crows Nest same as on the Oosterdam? or the Explorations Café area on Promenade Deck? Also, what is the Oak Room on Observation Deck?
Rare Copper10-8 Posted June 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) Thinking of booking a cruise on the Noordam while she is "down under". Checking the deck plans, but do not see a Library, is it situated in the Crows Nest same as on the Oosterdam? or the Explorations Café area on Promenade Deck? Also, what is the Oak Room on Observation Deck? NODM's Library is part of her Exploration's Café, located on Deck 3/Promenade Deck starboard side, forward. It is where the ship's Librarian has her desk The Oak Room is located off the aft portion of Crows Nest, starboard side, on Deck 10/Observation Deck. When NODM first entered service on 1 January 2006, the Oak Room was designated as a place where you could light up a cigar. It has leather seats and a faux fireplace. That policy was changed effective January 2013 and cigar smoking is no longer permitted inside the Oak Room Edited June 15, 2014 by Copper10-
Krazy Kruizers Posted June 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2014 Of the 4 Vista ships, the Noordam is the only ship that does not have the Explorations Café in the Crow's Nest. It is located on the Promenade Deck just like on the S and R class ships where the Explorations Café is on the Lower Promenade Deck -- nice and low on the ships. The last time we were on the Noordam, the Oak Room was still a smoking room. There used to be doors that opened out to the deck. But now there are cabins in that deck area. I have no idea what the Oak Room is used for now. It even has a fake fireplace.
PathfinderEss Posted June 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2014 I'm wondering what they use the Oak room for now that you can't smoke in there.

Rare erewhon Posted June 15, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted June 15, 2014 Thanks for all the information. We thought that the Library on the Oosterdam was situated in a noisy area. Krazy Kruizers, Thanks for posting the photo. Those chairs look comfortable.
