World Cup

Recommended Posts

I would bet money on it. The ships seem to show soccer 24 hours. I'd look for it at the On Air club, deck 5, Promenade.

I agree football as it's known is always on a tv on the ship always. I can't recall a time I have not seen it being shown. 99.9% of the crew were born in countries where football is not just a sport it is a religion. And if the Holy Grail of football were not shown on the ship I would venture to say the Captain would have a true mutiny on hands.

Thanks, wouldn't hurt to hear from someone who is or was onboard recently......just making sure

I just returned from a cruise on the Independence of the Seas and they were showing the world cup games on the big screen on deck 11 where the pools are, in the 'On Air Lounge' on deck 3, and on quite a few screens in the Casino.

I watched the Brazil v Croatia game in the casino, on air was packed and din't fancy being on the deck with no bar !!! I also noticed they were showing games in some of the bars on the Royal Promenade. I watched the Spain v Netherlands game in my stateroom as I packed on the last night, it was on one of the TV channels, so you shouldn't have any problems watching the World Cup if all the ships follow the same policy, we were on the Med Cities cruise, so I'm sure in Europe they will get a reception..

We received an email from RCI saying that they were showing all the world cup matches onboard, and that there would be special world cup cups for those that bought the soda package. We just got off Freedom today, we did get the special cup, but games were shown sporadically around the ship, did not see one on the big screen

Just off allure soccer is everywhere and the are selling different country shirts at one of the stores. Also on the allure casino is offering odds on the games everyday and taking bets. I got 7to1 odds on the Costa Rica game yesterday so it was fun to watch the game and make a good chunk of money on the under dog.

Thank you so much for all the replies. I know it is a very high profile event, however, in the past they haven't necessarily shown certain high-profile soccer games. I inquired and was told that it had to do with acquiring rights.

Very glad to hear that there is no need to start a mutiny (not yet) or bring my own satellite dish.....LOL!

I normally don't care for watching TV during cruises, but missing the World Cup is up there with cruising in my list of priorities.

P.S: A small 13" black and white screen in the trash or laundry room will do for me.

All that and an upgrade as well. Of course it could have been even better....

2 mistaken 'millionaires' and one serious one were made in Vegas at 1800 to 1 exact score bets.

Craps table was hot too. Have a hard time getting into soccer but since they were booking bets it made watching fun. So I took the longest shot of the day. I think the day before it was Spain and Netherlands at 3to1 but the close betting an hour before the game.

Also just off the Allure today. Channel 20 in your state room has all world cup games. They show them in the On Air Club as well as Blaze and the casino. Depending on what events are going on they may put the games on the Aqua Theater. They played Dutch/Spain game there. Also before the Blue Planet show and How to Train Your Dragon 2 started in the Amber theater they had the world cup on. It is definitely on, unlike the Stanley Cup finals.

Does anyone know whether Royal Caribbean is showing the World Cup games onboard ships?....Allure specifically

We just got back from the 6/8/14 sailing on the Allure and yes, unfortunately, they were showing the World Cup Soccer on the outdoor screens by the Aqua Theater, as well as in many of the bars and lounges.

What a racket!

They were not good when it came to the NHL. No games were on. To be fair the World Cup is on ESPN and hockey was not.

Just back from Vision and yes Futbol was on the big pool deck screen a lot. The one o'clock game always had no sound so as to not interfere with the calypso pool. band.

PIDGAS about Futbol but I sorta paid attention to it which is always my gripe about these big screen pool screens. After a while I retreated to the Solarium and no pictures of guys running up and down a field kicking a white ball.

Scorrrre.
