Oasis Day 4 - 6/24/14

Jamaica private tour

Urban legend or fact? Annie Palmer, AKA white witch of Rose Hall, Rose Hall is name of herGreat House, it is thought that she bedazzled and then killed all of her three husbands and countless slave lovers just for fun...

Some facts from Tour Guide Don:

- Kingston is capital

- Jamaica has parishes not states

- Husain Bolt: fastest man in the world! purple bldg in picture above is his school, used to live 3 miles from school, legend has it that he ran to school every day just for fun

- US uses 911, JM uses 119

- Ackee and sword fish are the national foods, you eat them with Breadfruit which grows on a tree

- Ackee is a fruit but you MUST KNOW HOW TO PREPARE IT TO EAT IT otherwise it is poisonous

- Jamaican language known locally as Patois (Patwa or Patwah) is mixture of French and English

Favorite saying for tourists to remember which side to drive on:

"Left side is right side, right side is suicide". :D

Day 4 Falmouth, Jamaica continued

Where can you get some DELISH drinks along with pretty good beach food and afterwards have a water park experience? Of course it's Margaritaville!

Hi Ms. Lillie,

I am very much enjoying your review of Oasis. My family and I are going for B2B cruises in March 2015. You've just posted some pictures and info on Jamaica I've been particularly curious about.

Our previous B2B cruises (we live in Northeastern Canada, so we try to go

B2B to make our flight fares worth the time and money, haha), we went to Margaritaville in Grand Turk. I had a blast at their outdoor pool and bar. I loved it so much I was hoping to find another one for this upcoming trip.

From what I see in your pictures, there's a pretty cool slide, but it goes into the ocean? The two floor bar/restaurant looks great, but I'm curious about the water activities/amenities. Our trip this time will be with our 18 month old daughter. I was looking for an outdoor pool experience for her, but it doesn't look like Falmouth's Margaritaville will offer that.

Any further details, and/or perhaps more photos would really help me out. 'Cause otherwise she'll spend the day with her grandparents while husband and I go horseback riding :)

Thanks again. I'm subscribed and enjoy all that you post!

Hi TravelBug08:

Thank you sooooooo much for taking time to post. Sometimes I feel like I'm out here all alone :o so it's nice to get a response every now and again.

Yes, it is true that Margaritaville would not be a good spot for your dear 18 month old. It is definitely an adult playground. I will be posting some info on Adventure Ocean later though. They have added quite a few activities for that age group.

Wow a B2B on Oasis! That gives you the chance to really enjoy the ports and the ship. You are going to have a ball. What are you most looking forward to?

Hope you will stay along for the ride. Lots more to come but if you have any specific questions ask away. I'm here to share what ever knowledge I have.

Day 4 Falmouth, Jamaica Martha Brae Raft Ride

Don't forget about the Martha Brae Raft ride. We didn't take part but those who did seemed to enjoy it. Our guide Don did take us to the beginning of the raft ride where we got the chance to see some of the rafts being assembled. Hopefully I can find those pics. Until then here are some people enjoying their time on the water.

Thanks for getting back to me Ms.Lillie :) And I'd love to hear more about on board activities for wee ones!

Yes I'm so happy to have two weeks to take in what Oasis has to offer. I am giddy about it, I think about it everyday! I love to cook and learn about new foods, so I always enjoy opportunities to try new things, whether it's in the MDR or at a specialty restaurant. Also, on each vacation I try to do something outside my comfort zone (read: Oasis' zipline, Flow Rider and rock wall climbing), and love to experience activities with animals (currently trying to choose a location for beach horseback riding).

All that, of course, are experiences for myself. But really, I'm most excited to take my daughter to the beach for some time in the sand and water. Our landscape is similar to that of Ireland, only with a HARSH winter of heavy snow. So Caribbean sun, sand and water is an absolute delight for us :)

My parents, aunt and uncle will come as well. The six of us did a B2B on Carnival Freedom two years ago for my parents' wedding! We had such a ball, and looked in AWE at Oasis while in Port Everglades..... we all just knew we'd be back to try her out!

Look forward to more posts and photos!

Day Passes AKA Resort for a Day at Caribbean resorts

TravelBug08 here is a bit of info on RCCL's Royal Babies & Tots Program. Thanks to PompeySailor for this wonderful info on the program.

See link attached for all information regarding AO program

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2060369

For families cruising on Royal Caribbean cruise ships with children age 6 months through 36 months, the Royal Babies & Tots Nursery is the place to have supervised care of your kids throughout the day. The nursery is staffed by trained professionals who are available day and night.

Royal Babies & Tots Program

There is an open house the first day of the cruise, so the nursery is not open for business, but it is open for parents and kids alike to check the place out and get an idea of what to expect. In addition, this is your first opportunity to make reservations for later in the cruise. The nursery has a limited staff and they are mandated to only be able to accommodate a certain amount of children per staff member (1:3 ratio for children 6-18 months; 1:4 ratio for 19-36 months). Reservations can be canceled if you change your mind, but it's best to reserve times you think you will need.

The nursery is split up into a two main rooms. The main room is the play room, where there is a television that plays various kid friendly films. Most of the room is comprised of being a play area, with cushioned obstacles for kids to climb as well as toddler toys all around. The kids are not segregated by age so the 2 year olds will be with the 6 month olds, which may sound like a problem but the staff is usually on top of keeping the kids from bothering each other.

The other room is for kids to nap in and is made up of a few cribs. As you may have guessed, this is where the kids go when they need to lay down for a bit and not be bothered by the other kids who aren't ready for sleep.

The Royal Babies & Tots Nursery costs $8 per hour, which we found to be a real bargain for what you get. The fee does include meals, although you can certainly bring whatever food you want for your child with you. You also need to provide your own diapers.

When you drop your child off, you fill out a quick form to tell the staff how your child is doing and what he/she may need during their time there. In addition, the staff provides you with a wireless phone that they can use to call you in case something happens or for you to call them if you want to check up on things.

Cost: $8 per child, per hour

Ships available: Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas, Splendour of the Seas, Rhapsody of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, Serenade of the Seas, Enchantment of the Seas, Legend of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, & Brilliance of the Seas

Hope this helps you.

Happy Days.

Hi Ms. Lillie,

I'm still here! Did you spend any time at the Falmouth Margaritaville? How far away was MoBay?

We've been to Falmouth twice -- the first time it wasn't really finished, so all we did was take the (free) shuttle to the Rose Hill Shops and a $10/pp trolley tour around the area. The second time it was pretty much done (except for the Margaritaville), so we just walked around the shops and then enjoyed a nearly empty Oasis.

We have nothing scheduled going there any time soon, but it's always good to have this information. The raft ride looked interesting (especially since there's a seat with a back).

Thanks!

Thank you so much for the information you put together for me! That was incredibly kind of you.

I am definitely going to check out the resort day pass option and see what the family thinks of that.

I had read about the Royal Babies and Tots Program, but I was so happy to see those photos of the playroom you found! I bet that'll be a great hangout when baby (and Daddy) needs a break from the sun...... Mommy can't get enough sun ;)

We only stayed at Margaritaviile MoBay for a short time. Can't say for sure how far it is from Falmouth Cruise Port as we didn't go directly there and made several stops in between. I believe it is about 30 minutes or so.

Here are some pics of Margaritaville at the Falmouth Cruise Port that I got from Trip Adviser.

You are so welcome TravelBug08! Glad I could provide some useful info. The play room does look like a great place to have some fun. With a B2B Mommie will certainly be able to enjoy some good sun time.

Thanks for riding with a Sistah!

Day 4 more Falmouth Private Tour

We didn't get a chance to go inside the White Witch's great house but we did get a chance to go inside of one called the Richmond Hill Great House. The lady who greeted us at the door is one of the descendants of the owners of the house.

I have to say that it was in pretty good condition and as we were walking through I could just imagine it being full of people and a lot of activity going on. The rooms were very large and open areas with literally no walls in some of the areas.

The picture is of the mother of the lady who greeted us as we entered.

It was interesting listening to the stories of the people who had come through and stayed at the Richmond Hill Great House.

Nowadays not many people stay there but you can still have events, like wedding receptions etc.

Day 4 Falmouth continued Richmond Hill Great House.

There is a hotel on the property but my understanding is that the all-inclusive's have taken away most of the business. The pool and restaurant are still in operation as well.

Just curious, what were some of your favorite MDR items you tasted?

I typically don't like to look at the menus ahead of a cruise, because I enjoy it in the moment of "what can I have tonight?".... but the menu you posted, I was salivating! :)
