Thank you, vjb.

What nice things to say to me. There are occasions on this board where it seems a few rather sour, apparently miserably unhappy people need to write ugly things to/about others. I wish them well but sure enjoy reading your nice post more than their nastiness. We are all here to have a little fun, share a little knowledge, help each other.....

I enjoy reading your posts, as well. Glad to see you and other nice people hanging out around here. Happy Cruising. But, sorry, I stuff our suitcases so full I don't think there's room for a whole person to fit. I'll try though

s7s, I'm with vjb, I wanna cruise with you!

I can't imagine lugging all that wine either. I like wine, I like good wine but I have never been on a cruise where there wasn't at least something I would like and I would hate to see HAL change more rules because people are lugging all that on board.

We aren't wealthy by any means, in fact we only cruise when we can find a really good deal but if that meant we had to lug liquor, wine, beer etc with us, we wouldn't go. We factor in what we are going to pay on our shipboard account into calculating if we can even afford to go or not. Sometimes sadly the answer is not but for this October, we are going and we will likely spend more on our shipboard account then we did for the cruise!

gliles..... I hope you have the absolute best cruise ever. I well remember the days when we were not able to do something. When /if we could not afford it, we didn't do it. But when it was possible for us to go, we enjoyed it to the max....and still do!!

I have written on this Board before that every time we cross a gangway to board a ship to begin a new cruise, I always say a big thank you for being able to be there and promise myself I shall have the best possible time. That I shall enjoy every minute spent with my husband and old friends aboard....and the new friends we are sure to meet. None of us come with any guarantees in life and I always assume that each cruise COULD be my last so I'd best make it as great as I can.

I hope everyone has "the time of their lives" and their best cruise ever on their next cruise.

Hey S7S, I'm with ya! You post really good posts and give excellent advice!

I'm not independently wealthy, but I do enjoy taking cruises and I make sure I budget for an exceptional cruise with first class accomodations...because I like to travel WELL! I just can't for the life of me see spending big bucks for a cruise and then hauling stuff on board and OFF that makes me look like a pack mule!

I think taking on a couple of bottles of wine and champagne is fine and if you have 4 other couples sailing with your group, have them carry on a couple bottles. I very rarely drink wine, but on my last cruise I had a GLASS of wine and was charged $8 for the glass...I think that's a little steep and can understand how that can put a dent in someone's wallet if they're scraping $$$ together to take the cruise in the first place. But, I wouldn't overdo it and help put an end to a courtesy that any cruise line extends to us.

I want to be s7s! Maybe someday I will be able to cruise as much as she does. I figure if there was a day when she couldn't afford to do whatever she wanted and now she can, I am following the same path since I can't afford to do whatever I want but for now, I am putting as much as I can into my 401k so when I retire, I can cruise and spend my kids' inheritance Thanks s7s for all your good advice, I am living vicariously through you!

Oh, indeed, in the early days of our marriage, there were loads of things we were not able to do. Like most young couples, there were not a bunch of dollars left at the end of a month to put toward vacations. Somehow rent, tuition, and groceries took priority.

We have been very fortunate (and worked hard) and today we enjoy the fruits of that work. DH is still in business but I stopped working some time ago.

I'm glad some of the "stuff" I post is useful/helpful. Reading and posting on the BB is how I "cruise" between cruises.

.....I'm happy to say our documents are in for Our Next Cruise......(and this week, we just booked a cruise on Veendam for January).

s7s, just curious...I know you cruise often and love it but I wonder, do you take land vacations as well?

Having only done Caribbean cruises and many land vacations (to warm places mostly), what is your ideal vacation? Is it a cruise and if so, to where?

Once again, trying to live vicariously through you!

Before we ever took our first cruise, we did a huge number of land trips throughout the U.S., Caribbean Resorts and a great many European trips/tours.

Since we started cruising, it seems 90% of our travel is now cruising and only a small amount of land travel.

I am so very grateful for all of our travels and particularly grateful we did so much during the times when it was alot less hassle and was far more worry free.

Among my favorite trips would be anywhere/everywhere in Italy. I have loved every minute we spent in that glorious country and we have traveled extensively on many repeat trips there.

Other countries/cities that are high on my list of favorites in Europe are Amsterdam/Rotterdam in Holland; Madrid and Marbella, Spain; Lisbon; and absolutely Copenhagen. We have had a number of wonderful stays in Montreal and always enjoy being there.

In the U.S. and Caribbean, we have had some wonderful vacations in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, San Juan, Aruba.....and, and, and

There are very few places we've been that I would say I did not particularly enjoy in one way or another....but there are a few.

If it is your dream to travel extensively, I wish you many safe adventures; many happy landings.

Jim...We surely would be delighted to enjoy a nice evening with you and your DW. My DH has been making "Las Vegas noises" lately as hemisses the place. We used to go at least once a year but it has been a while....maybe two years now since we were last there.

I promise to let you know in advance if we plan to "come to town". I'd look forward to meeting you and DW.
