RumpunchGirl Posted July 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2014 Dh and I love casinos! We've been the Las Vegas several times and visit the local Minnesota casinos weekly. We usually play slots but DH will sometimes play cards. What are the casinos like in Australia? Are there casinos in all the ports we are visiting (Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Cairns, Port Douglas)? How do they compare with Las Vegas? We are familiar with cruise line casinos and don't spend a lot of time gambling in them so we will probably check out what's on land this cruise. Thanks! Wyuna1 Posted July 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2014 There are casinos in Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns and have all the usual card games and slot machines. There is only one casino in each city not like Las Vegas but you can still manage to have a very enjoyable time as you donate to their coffers. When are you traveling? Teri Most licensed clubs and some Pubs have slots, what we call Poker Machines. Visitors are very welcomed.;)

dizzy1948 Posted July 18, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) You are forgetting Melbourne, Perth and Tasmania:rolleyes: Yep - I'd forget Perth as well - and I live here  The gambling laws in Australia are weird. In Perth - 1 Casino end of. Compared to Casino's elsewhere - it is a non starter. IMHO of course. In Western Australia Pokie machines are banned. So Perth is not really worth a mention in the gambling field :p Edited July 18, 2014 by dizzy1948

Teri I think where they have casinos they're fairly comparable to Vegas, aside from there not being so many overall, nor being as big or as many. But inside the gaming and environment's similar. We've even had their managers come here and operate ours. They're not quite as big and flashy of course, but they usually are still glitzy, lots of machines and tables, dealers who will explain the rules, variety of betting levels, high end rooms, waiter service and so on. RumpunchGirl Posted July 18, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted July 18, 2014 Wyuna1 - We're arriving in Sydney 23rd of Oct. and set Sail on the 28th. We are staying very near the Star Casino while in Sydney. Dizziedi - We are not traveling south of Sydney this trip. Maybe next time! The_Big_M - It's the same kind of thing here in Minnesota where there are just a few casinos in the state but they are spread out a bit. Our casinos are owned and run by Native Americans and located on their land. From where I live, there is 1 casino an hour north and 1 casino and hour south of us. They have nice hotels attached and venues for entertainment (concerts, comedians, etc.). But, unlike Vegas, alcoholic drinks are NOT free on the gaming floor. Since we have an hour drive home, we don't really drink much anyway. Thanks for info everyone! Only 95 days until I hop on Boering 757!:D
aronde Posted July 18, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 18, 2014 You are forgetting Melbourne, Perth and Tasmania:rolleyes: And Canberra! Everyone always forgets about our casino. Not that I blame them - it is small and has no poker machines!! 😃 Sent from my iPhone using Forums
