Pregnancy & Getaway

My husband and I have a room booked on the getaway and we are super excited!

My sister and her husband are considering booking a room on the same cruise, but she is pregnant. I know she can't go if she's past her 24th week if pregnancy, but are there any other restrictions on the ropes course or water slide? Or anything else she should be aware of?

Not sure if she'll feel like doing any of those things...but just in case :)

They are not going to allow someone who is pregnant to do the ropes course, or anything else that would be considered a risk.

No hot tubs, of course.

Does she have morning sickness?

So much depends on her.

She may feel great NOW, but if you are booking several months out before the swollen ankles and generalized crankiness and exhaustion some experience begin, the heat of the Caribbean and the smoke in the casino( which some have complained about) the smells in the many restaurants may all become exaggerated.

Is this her first pregnancy?

First cruise?

If yes to either, I would go, thinking back to issues that I had.

It is something she needs to discuss wih her OB and her husband, knowing that her activities will be limited.

I would never chose to cruise while pregnant , but I had to carry a supply of Ziplok bags everywhere....TMI!!!!

That's something that is going to have to be totally her responsibility. Unless she is really showing, who is even going to be aware of her being pregnant. This is a personal responsibility issue for her, not the ship's crew. She'll have to be the judge of what is safe for her and what isn't.

I'll be pregnant on the Getaway in late October. I'm assuming the ropes course and water slides will be off limits. I doubt I'd get clearance from my midwife for either of those even if the ship allowed it. I've also heard stories of people getting stuck in the slides, and I can't imagine pregnancy would help there! Missing the slides is a bit disappointing, but I think it should be a great time anyway. It looks like there's a lot to do. I'm hoping they'll at least let me dip my feet in the hot tubs, assuming my midwife says it's ok.

This isn't what you asked, but may save you some research. I emailed them to ask about excursions, and they said I'd have to call with specific excursions in mind to see if I'd be allowed to do them. I only saw one snorkel excursion that explicitly said no pregnant women.

If you're looking at a later cruise than I'm taking, I'd be happy to report back if you bump the thread to remind me.

Thank you! This is exactly the info I was looking for :) I certainly wasn't expecting the crew to take care of her...roger haha. Goodness.

My PCC wasn't very helpful and said nothing would be off limits and maybe wasn't sure what I was asking...it just didn't sound like she had the right info so I came here :). Thank you for offering to report back.

I didn't see rules posted for the ropes course, but from the looks of the harness, it wouldn't work for someone who's showing. For what it's worth, my midwife is ok with ziplining in early pregnancy (it's not very fast and there's no hard jerking motion), so if your sister in law isn't showing, she may be able to do the ropes course. http://www.depping-design.de/test/displayimage.php?album=313&pid=10829#top_display_media

I urge that your DSIL do her own checking to see what is and is not permitted. She is pregnant and is the responsible party. I would hate for you to be put in the middle if something happened. That is just my 2 cents worth.

Although people have sailed perfectly fine while pregnant. I just want to warn your sis to be careful. I had taken a cruise while pregnant and on my way back home had miscarried. I wouldn't want to wish this on anyone and not blaming cruise but just want to express caution. Many people have sailed and flown fine while pregnant so every situation is different.
