I keep picking the wrong area to stay in!

I have been to San Juan twice before and keep picking hotels in areas that look like there is a lot to do but there is not.

I am looking to stay after our cruise from say 10a.m. Saturday through 4p.m on Sunday. Is there a hotel that has a nice beach very near, shopping and a casino all within a short walking distance?

I would appreciate any help

Thanks

I'll suggest the Condado area. Hotels like The Conrad or Marriott Stellaris would fit your needs, both have a beach area and casino. Ashford Ave. has many shops and good restaurants. You can go into Old San Juan from there by taxi or public bus.

Try LaConcha in Condado Fragile, it fits all of your criteria. The hotel is located on Ashford Avenue, and within walking distance of some high end stores like Cartier, Gucci, and Ferragamo among others. Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks are a stones throw away and there is a great park located just up the street. We've stayed there pre and post cruise and loved our stay there.

Old San Juan is my first choice. Condado second.

OP wanted a beach - none in Old San Juan.

Yes Condado or Isla Verde.

Condado Hilton. On beach, nice casino. Same for Marriott.

Might want to price check Embassy Suites in Isla Verde. Beach is a short two block walk. Lots of restaurants nearby. Casino onsite. Usually a little more reasonable rates than the oceanfront properties.

Check out the highly-useful (for me, at least) "stuck" thread at the top of the board for Priceline and Hotwire hotels.

I've only ever used them for my hotels in San Juan. I got La Concha for my pre-cruise stay on 10/31 this time for around $130.

I stayed 2 nights post-cruise in May 2009 at the Marriott Stellaris (also on Ashford). Last November, I stayed 2 night pre-cruise at the Sheraton OSJ (didn't need/want a beach because I was going to have about 5 beach stops on the cruise; OSJ is a beautiful old city and I love just walking around exploring).

OP, there is SO much info available on the web that choosing hotels in the "wrong area" would take some doing! :p San Juan is not a cheap place to visit, but there's really no reason to not find a hotel that fits your needs/wants at a somewhat-reasonable price. Just have to do your homework!

If the OP's only criteria is the beach the Condado Hilton will do fine. But it doesn't have a casino and nothing else to do (shopping, eating, nightlife, mingling) unless you get walking to the center of Condado. The Marriott Stelaris and la Concha are a better fit for this. The Ambassador plaza is also well situated but no beach and it's a bit run down. Both the Marriot and La Concha are in the middle of everything.

  • 2 weeks later...

You may want to check out the Best Western Condado Palms. I have not yet stayed there; but I will be there in fourteen days. :D I have spoken to a friend who stayed there, and according to him it's a decent hotel at a reasonable price. It's about a block to a block and a half from the beach, and in close proximity to shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Looks to be running between $99 and $140 per night.

I'd have to give a second on LaConcha. On the beach, and as Mikesa1721 stated, across the street is Cartier and Gucci. The hotel has been remodeled with the past 5 years.
