leaveitallbehind Posted August 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) Hi,Going on Celebrity Equinox next month-- cannot seem to get a hold of up to date bar prices, so I can decide on PAYG or Drinks Package!! Regarding alcohol packages, the average rule of thumb would be 6 - 7 drinks per day every day is a rough break even to the cost of the package. Keep in mind this includes port of call days as well. Edited August 27, 2014 by leaveitallbehind
txflood33 Posted August 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2014 Regarding alcohol packages, the average rule of thumb would be 6 - 7 drinks per day every day is a rough break even to the cost of the package. Keep in mind this includes port of call days as well. I think a better rule of thumb would be to get an idea of the prices of the drinks to break even. The Premium package for my cruise with my wife was $1300 for the both of us....this package include gratuities and is through Celebrity. This works out to $650 ea or $65 a day My wife is a wine drinker...some wine is $14/glass. One with lunch, one in the afternoon by the pool, one at dinner and one on the balcony at night...those 4 glasses are $56 of the $65 I need to spend to break even....if I include the tip they will automatically add on, I an much closer to the $65. My package also includes soda, bottled water and specialty coffees. The price of the package is $x.xx per day so the total cost is based on the length of your cruise. If you drink beer, you may want to do the math. If you are a martini/wine drinker, you may come out ahead...especially when you add the soda/water/coffee. Also - at least with RCI - most of the higher priced wines you refer to are not included in packages without a separate surcharge. Not arguing your method - but all I was doing was a simple average with alcohol only which I believe is pretty accurate at least to the RCI packages. I could be mistaken, but the way I understand it is this...and this is from reading the Celebrity boards I buy a $10 drink and have not purchased a drink package, they swipe my card and $11.50 get's charged as a 15% tip is added. Same scenario with a drink package, $0 is charged as the price of my package included all drink gratuities. I could be wrong, but I do know with the package, tips are already included. I don't know how the RCI packages work but the Celebrity packages are Classic and Premium. Classic covers drinks up to I believe $9 in price....if you get a drink not included in your package, the full price of the drink gets added to your card. Premium package covers drinks up to $14 in price...if you select a drink over the $14, the difference is charged to your card This is what I based my math on....the prices for drinks on the boat are higher than your everyday bar so the bill adds up much more quickly.
