@DKNYC

is it a yankee cap? i thought it just represented New York! (nothing other then that) :D

and no i did not know it was the mets statium (i dont know what the mets are and will have to google it later) - i only knew it by the large logo on the box

is there a big difference between the two? (dare i ask without causing a fan rant =P ) - i do not follow sport that much - so please excuse my ignorance...

ah ok about smith....see to me - i think the smith restaurant would be for people who are "out to impress" someone for the night, rather then a "tourist who wants to play local" for the night

some how with red rooster i dont think we are talking about the fast food chain are we? http://www.redrooster.com.au/

i went into the library last time i was in NYC - and i was so impressed that for this trip, im going again - THAT PLACES WAS AWESOME of course i would never have valued it as a child

but as an adult - i was like wowed....

SOLD TO THE LADY NAMED DKNYC - Bryant park it is - that looks awesome....What month was that picture taken, may i ask please? because that looks uber cool...

i was doing some more research on st maarten - well not research but looking up at other people who do that - which we mentioned earlier..

i dont know which is hotter, the sun and sand, the bikini clad babes or the low flying air craft! look at the video!

i loved how the itanlian pilot waves

i wonder if the skianthos beach would be a better place for the planes rather then the main one where all the tourists are!

thanks again for the post DKNYC!

Hello again

The New York Met's , like the NY Yankees are a Baseball Team. They play at Citi field in Flushing Queens. I am a Mets fan and the mail difference between the Yankees and Mets is that the Yankees have won something like 28 championships and the Mets a disappointing 2. Is this the Cap you've dreamed of?

You can get it lots of places including The Met's shop 11 W 42 St (which is right across the street from BRYANT PK...How Convenient.:D)

http://shop.mlb.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=1452359

Our Red Rooster is not a chain but rather a one off Restaurant located in Harlem ( Again). http://redroosterharlem.com/

However if you like Chicken and Barbeque you might like Dallas BBQ. There are several locations, the food is good and reasonable pricewise. I believe they will be open on Thanksgiving and the big "Texas Sized" drinks are awesome . It's a fun place.

BTW The Bryant Park photo was taken on New Year's Day 2014

Don't know if you are into museums at all.

There is an awesome one that I remember from the World's Fair in 1964-65. It was called the NY State pavilion back then I think but is now the Queens Museum. It's centerpiece is a scale model of the entire city. It was a ride ( think Disneyland/world) where you circled the model in a vehicle of sorts. Now you walk around the newly restored exhibit. It cost 10 cents back in the day now they ask for an $8 donation. It's in the Nanny's hometown of Flushing.

Some others that I like are :

American Museum of Natural History...Have you seen the movies A Night at the Museum? This is the one. and they also have a Planetarium as well.

http://www.amnh.org/

And the New York Historical Society is also fun and right down Central Park West from the AMNH. It is specifically about the history of New York.

Ah ok - fair enough about the baseball teams...i didnt know that...in all honesty i have never cared much for real life sporting events - dont get me wrong

i dont mind watching a game of "this" or "that" but im not one of those die hard fans that sit around religiously whenever an event is on.

Yup that cap pretty much somes it up, and what im looking for! Awesome location, i will check it out when I go to Waffles and dinges - who said they would be in Bryant park!

along with the ice skating ring and stuff....so yeah something about a winters festival....i will go into that shop to see it when i get there...

Ah ok - that explains it about Red Rooster then...

I looked up Dallas BBQ, and gave them a phone call, a very polite man from Bangladesh answered - with great irony, he has a relative that lives not to far from where I do in Sydney.

What a small world we live in..

i looked at the photos of the food for Dallas BBQ and to they do not look inviting to me...

http://s3-media4.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/_5eQ-C7A5QQnsrzNIq3mDA/l.jpg

when i was googling it, i saw applebees across the road(phoned them up too), (as im still looking for a place to eat on the 27th)

and they seems nice - but after research, and reviews on yelp, both DallasBBQ and Applebee seem to both have large amount of reviews with less then average stars 2/5 stars

but the goods news for me at least, is that, SOMETHING will be open, at least in manhattan...even if i just get some corn bread from Dallas BBQ as i have never had that...

the photo for Bryant - i leave NYC on the 15 - so its close enough to the date ...snow and all :/

Museums are awesome to see - but only after "been there done that". i mean im already planning another trip back to NYC either this coming August (2015) or 2016... as a base

before I go up to Canada, so I will try and see some muesums then...

if its the one I was thinking of, it was at universal studios in Anaheim?

anyway - i am definitely going out to the park where that museum is, as i think that is the park where MIB (men in black, 3 i think?) was filmed...!! i noticed that when i was researching that place

you suggested..i love movies :D - unisphere and such...

http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/m/mib.html#.VDj7eBZiJhE

im trying to do some reseach on the abandoned town hall subway station to see if they do tours there - that is my job next week...

Yes, i am definiteley going to the AMNH - as I have free open ended tickets to visit it - the best thing of all - shake shake is around the corner for it!

how awesome is that - 2 birds with one stone..shake shack and AMNH

i have come to realise that NYC is more about "eating" then "attractions" - you have some stuff like Statue of liberty etc and rocker feller centre etc but its all about the food!

and Shake shack and papaya king etc are stuff we dont have in Australia, and its something i have to try :D

May i ask some extra question please?

Which is better and why? East, West or Greenwich village for an afternoon visit? - i have 2 days free, a saturday and sunday, and im not sure what to do, or which is the best place

to visit, and time is so short as such...i will be going and getting those insomnia cookies in west village, but its hard to tell "what is there"

and why is it better in your opinion? i dont like to waste time while on holidays but its about "killing time" until the cruise starts...

Also which is better and why? Macys or Bloomingdales? and do you know much about Martha Stewarts stuff at these stores? and why is which one better or are they both the same?

What do people do in NYC on Friday night? i know there are clubs and bars etc but - is there anywhere nice? most of the websites are hyped up rubbish...

is there any place that would be fun? any particular section of manhattan?

sorry for the late reply, i have been heavily researching my trip and what to do, where to go, tram lines etc, the ironic thing that I came across something that has been haunting me

for a number of days, ever since I first came across it and i cant get it off my mind, and i dont know why....

Lynnewood Hall

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynnewood_Hall

have you ever heard of it

its even outside of my large budget....$70 million - $20 million for purchase and $50 million for repairs.!

I just wish I could save this house - its amazing, its beautiful...

I even thought about writing a letter to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, but they dont do this sort of thing...I mean he would probably be the only person that could

afford it, in this financial situation.

for what its worth though, its not worth $10 million in the state that its in, its worth $10-12 million max....the yearly tax costs alone are $135K

google Lynnewood if your interested....

You're right a lovely picture. That's what I meant by places to buy stuff around the Bryant Pk rink.

77 Water Street Rooftop ! now that is cool but i dont think i can see it as i dont have enough time!

or

Track 61!

I knew about some of these but I clearly need to pay more attention around town. I used to work a couple of blocks from the Clock in the sidewalk on Maiden Ln (#12). Walked over it many , many times.

i thought you had abandoned ship on my thread! glad to see you didnt...because it was starting to look weird, me posting to myself!

@dknyc (or anyone else)

do you know the difference between

"my dining time" and "dynamic dining"

is there a difference? if so what?

i will explain why after i see a few responses.....

With MTD there is "1" Main Dining Room. With DD there is no "main" dining room but many different Restaurants.

The main difference: With MTD you have 1-14 menus in the same venue each night. With DD you have 1 menu per venue with up to 4 (5 if in a suite) to pick from per night. In both cases you can (and should) make reservations online in advance or just show up and wait for a table to be open. The only other difference is that MTD still allowed for the option to have a fake traditional dining arrangement with the same wait staff and table each night where as DD only allows for that if you want the same menu every day.

I would not go to Dallas BBQ if you are here visiting. It is ok but nothing special. I prefer Blue Smoke on E. 27th or Virgil's on W. 44th.

Also, it sounds like you would enjoy the NYC Transit Museum in Brooklyn. It is very easy to get to.

Hmmm Pomander walk sounds interesting. I never heard of it. I have been to Virgil's a long time ago. It was definitely much better than Dallas or Applebee' s. Go to the Royal Caribbean site for info on Dynamic Dining. I sure hope it works better than the planner site/ app for booking restaurants , entertainment & tours etc. That thing is a nightmare. I almost want to just wing it and eat in WJ or the Hotdog truck if I have to. I have to call tonight to put final payment on for my QOS cruise. Will also try to book my entertainment as well. Grrr

High 5 to all of you for the awesome replies! thanks heaps everyone

Awesome links - they are awesome and clearing that up...

Awesome definition..

@Yorkvillain

woohoo :D thank you for the honest feedback! without it - i do not get a "true" new york experience and that is what i really want....

i looked at the recommendation

http://www.bluesmoke.com/

can someone explain it to me why on earth New Yorkers have an un-natural obsession with macaroni and cheese? its served at nearly all restaurants - including blue smoke!

i am going out to Brooklyn (twice! once for the bridge walk and once for dinosaur bbq)! and looked up the museum but it appears to be a nightmare to get too - with no train station close by :(

@DKNYC

*big hugs at my regular poster and new friend.*

what is virgils? http://www.virgilsbbq.com/ ? if so - that is super awesome because its right near times square on 44th str not too far from my hotel!

i will need to stop in and check out applebees as we do not have it here in Australia :D

sadly im not 100% sure what WJ and the hot dog truck has but as mentioned before hot dogs are my kryptonite! LD

I paid my travel agent months ago - so all payments for me are done and dusted :D - my final payments are for maui - im waiting for the aussie dollar to go up, its currently SUCKS.

@everyone

along with all the great answers here - i also phoned up royal carribean and demanded some answers because when ellen at RCI sold us our tickets, we were talked into paying for "my dining time"

and on the e document we go its dynamic dining.

well RCI said that MDT is not available on Quantum and you have no choice but to use DD - end of story, so I think that I have paid for something im not going to get :(

once again sorry for the slow response...

When you were signed up for MDT, gratuities must be prepaid. That is how it is on all ships. With Traditional Dining, gratuities are added to your SeaPass Account daily. For those in a JS cabin or below the cost is $12pp per day. For those in a GS or higher the cost is $14.25pp per day. There are many, like ourselves, that chose to include our gratuities in our final payment.

Since it appears that you have prepaid your gratuities (you can check your confirmation invoice from RCI), once on board, you can go to Guest Services and have this daily amount removed since there is no MDT on board.

Your gratuities are broken out as follows:

$6.80 Dining Service

$3.85 Stateroom Attendant

$1.35 Other Housekeeping Personnel

$12.00

thank you for the response - then i wont worry about it - ill leave it on...no issues with that

to be honest with you cruisinfever - im very scared at the moment - i just heard on the news of the ebola outbreak in NYC :(

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/24/nyregion/craig-spencer-is-tested-for-ebola-virus-at-bellevue-hospital-in-new-york-city.html?_r=0

im 16 days out from flying to maui and then an additional 2 weeks from NYC - and its really concerning.

im trying to approach this with rational and non-panic - but who wants to go to a city that has a disease that will liquify your organs!

One person does not equal an outbreak.

what angers me the most is the irresponsibility of this doctor

the moment he came back from west africa treating those ebola patience, he went all over nyc via trains, taxis and went bowling...

he could have waited 21 days before romping around the city

:(

@ahecht

go to google and type in "outbreak define"

this is the result

"outbreak" (noun) - a sudden occurrence of something unwelcome, such as war or disease.

Yes it is an outbreak - think about it - before it wasnt there in NYC - now it is.

and what a load of rubbish - of course its highly contagious -

"Ebola virus isn't contagious until you start having symptoms"

the guy reported diarrhea, so what did he do? he went to the toilet - which then tells me the virus is in the sewer system the moment he flushed it - and who do you think will pick up the virus next? the rats and where do the rats go? into restaurants where the food is, and onto the streets.

The guy was also sweating on the subway, bowling ally, taxi cabs.

The guy must of been paying for all these things - how about cash right?! the sweat from his hands would have gotten onto the cab drivers hands and possibly passed it onto him that what?

and what if the guy sneezed on the subway? a good way to start an air borne version of the virus in the subway ventilation system where it can breed and spread to thousands of people.

or am i just reading into it too much?

new article - they are isolating everyone from those flights now...

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/25/nyregion/new-york-ebola-case-craig-spencer.html?_r=0

or does anyone else want to try and tell me "its not that serious"

make sure you treat this disease with the respect it deserves, especially since it will liquify your internal organs before you die.
