Bizarre movement. She's headed back in now. Feel sorry for anyone thats got an early flight this morning. Turnaround is going to be chaos.

thats why the cruise line dont like people booking early flights as things can be delayed

Just went for a walk past the OPT. On top of the late arrival a thunderstorm rolled in. With the current setup even without the anomaly of a late arrival its every person for themselves in inclement weather as the only temporary marquee they have erected seems to only allow entry to those boarding and not those waiting even though its purpose seems only a walk through to the path to the old terminal. Maybe this is a Carnival thing and when the larger ships of other lines start to arrive they will provide another large marquee.

Just saw this post on Carnival's facebook page:-

"Feed us poor trapped passengers waiting to get off but cannot. So long since breakfast a mutiny is brewing"

It was posted 1 hour ago. Do they have problems getting people off Spirit?

Also saw this reply from Carnival:-

"Hopefully you are on your way home now, as we understand that all passengers were due to be off the ship by 1.30pm. Apologies that you felt there was not an adequate supply of food during the delay. We've spoken to the ship and understand that Lido had pastries and pizza available during the delay time (after breakfast was served), but it is possible you were not made aware of this.

We try our best to avoid any delays with the ship, but in this instance it was due to the need for the ship to return to Noumea to disembark a passenger for a medical emergency.

We're sorry for inconvenience caused!"

Not sure how this is the reason for the ship circling in Sydney Harbour and being late into dock.

It appears it did not dock until 10am, so being disembarked by 1.30 would appear reasonable given the number of people involved.

Get Travel Insurance people! - these things do happen.

Hope the process of getting the new guests on board goes smoothly for all.

Hi All

Coming out of Maré Monday night we had to double back to Noumea overnight ?? 0400-0600 to perform a medical evac off the ship onto a helicopter. 2 days at sea we caught up time (at considerable fuel expense) to hit bad currents last night - we were 20min late to the cut off of entering the harbour (peak hour traffic spirit is banned from entering) the captain applied for exemption though refused. Then we eventually got in an tug broke down giving us a free extra harbour cruise :-)

I cannot stress enough how well carnival handled all of this !

All staff were calm and very helpful ! (Ex stu letting the f bomb slip last night over the loudspeaker - poor bugger was embarrassed - was very funny)

Again ALLstaff were amazing!!!

We were given free phone calls to call who ever we needed , we were kept up to date on time etc

The disembarkation this morning was great- giving early flights 1st to leave and everyone got off fairly easily an an orderly manner - with no mad people at all - most people saw the funny side of it

The staff were cleaning rooms as soon as we left - but had no pressure to leave.

Well done all

Did she get away on time tonight ??

Is there much social media carry on re:today ? I can't see any of the negative nancies anywhere

She was scheduled to depart at 4pm but obviously that did not happen. The last guests were checked in at about 5:30 and the life boat drill was held about that time as well so probably got away by about 6 - 6:30 I was on the bus home by then:D

You would like to think that any reasonable, decent person would/could not complain about this on social media or anywhere else. It was an isolated incident with the medical evacuation, they tried to make up the time but just missed the the ferry exclusion time and then had the tug break down just as they approached the terminal.

It was quite strange/funny standing in the terminal watching her approaching the terminal and then do a quick U turn in front of the Opera House and head out to sea again We were all saying it was the fastest turnaround we had ever done and there were a couple of Carnival Execs from they US who were here for the Legend arrival who said they had never seen anything like it:)

No it's not just a Carnival thing The "Barangaroo" marquee takes up pretty much all the available space in front of the terminal so there is nowhere else to put another one. It is intended to use it as a sheltered "holding" area when required but space is limited so the need for people to adhere to their staggered check in times will be vital for the bigger ships.

Forgot to mention before that, ironically, there is an" Horizons" cruise industry conference being held on the Spirit so the delegates and a lot of "VIPs" were also delayed boarding. Getting some of their own back:D:D

Am I right in thinking that for those folk who missed their flights due to the late arrival of the ship, they would not have been covered by their travel insurance?

On the last night we were given a letter with a carnival letterhead signed by the captain with reasoning why we were late; it was worded to be given to insurance company. Most people I talked to seemed confident in being able to claim. Fortunately for us - jetstar changed our flights for free - this was a loophole cause my original flight had been canceled and moved months ago so the removed it
