englander Posted October 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2014 I'm staying at Le St Paul hotel on rue St Paul and want to go visit fellow cruise critic mates at Le Port Royal, which looks like a few blocks away; but it will be dark when we are done with dinner and want to walk back. Is this a safe area to walk at night?

Rare mskaufman Posted October 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2014 We had an overnight there in early July. Every place in the old town had plenty of tourists wandering around with no problem.
seafish Posted October 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 29, 2014 Recently stayed 3 nights in the Old City - absolutely no problem .. in fact we probably felt safer than night stays in (most cities) but - as always when traveling - be cautious. Twickenham Posted October 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 29, 2014 I'm staying at Le St Paul hotel on rue St Paul and want to go visit fellow cruise critic mates at Le Port Royal, which looks like a few blocks away; but it will be dark when we are done with dinner and want to walk back. Is this a safe area to walk at night? Years ago - I'm talking 50 or so years here - the area was kind of slummy (or so my mother says every time we drive down there to see a cruise ship :D). Urban regeneration has transformed the area, and certainly for as long as I can remember (I'm 41) the area has been quite fashionable. So I would have no problems doing the walk you propose. Another point is that, probably at the point when you've finished dinner, most restaurants will be in full swing, and there will be lots of people in and around that area (as an example, the most restrictive opening hours for the restaurant at the Port Royal have them close at 1 am). gilligan and mary ann Posted October 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2014 I am from Montreal about two hours down the road, there is probably fewer safer places in the world. I am exaggerating, not by much though, but you could do that walk with $20 bills hanging out of your pockets and not worry. You will love old Quebec very beautiful. trophy_23 Posted November 19, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 19, 2014 Agree'd we felt extremely safe in Quebec City, even very late at night. Our ship overnighted and we were out very late, no worries at all. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
