Do you pick a cruise for itinerary or ship?

I'm new to cruising, so definitely itinerary. Once I've seen all the places that I want to see (which won't be for a very long time), then maybe we'll pick a cruise just for the ship.

Although I have to say, I am dying to sail on the Vista or one of the future ships in her class. I may have to make an exception for that ship so that I can try out those air bikes!

Ordinarily itinerary - with the exception of the Caribbean, where the ship is more important as the itinerary is a repeat. Finally, if it is a close call between two desirable ships or two tempting itineraries, price will be a consideration - but never the primary one. You cannot bear the Staten Island Ferry for price.

Of course there are some ships which will not make the cut: generally anything with over 2,500 passengers - or with the NCL logo, or a Carnival ship on a short itinerary in Spring Break season.

We choose primarily by itinerary.

Secondary is the ship but we won't cruise on the mega-ships. So that, and price, also influences our choice.

Itinerary always. Although their are certain lines rather than ships we are less keen to sail on but for the right price who knows.

We have certain 'cruises' to do on our list in no order:

1) TA (which will be with Cunard)

2) Aus to Asia (Likely Carnival or a RCL cruise)

3) Black sea (Princess and MSC seem to do these)

4) a 'typical' Caribbean cruise that preferably Southern/Eastern (Carnival)

Oasis almost swayed us at one time but its ports were all repeats of our booked cruise for next year.
