gracecarmo Posted May 21, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2004 We were on the Summit last year around this time. Everything was in good shape. We are going on her again next Feb. right after the repairs/cleaning etc. while in dry dock. Many positive reports re this ship, you can't go wrong. kayakfam Posted May 21, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2004 We were on the Summit in December 2003 and loved it so much we booked her again for October 2004. The ship is in GREAT condition. Excellent food, service, etc. One of our CC friends was on the inaugural cruise of the Summit and she can't wait for our October cruise! 42trvl Posted May 21, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2004 We were just on Summit 3 weeks ago, and going back in August. It was in great shape - some very minor things here and there, but nothing significant. Very clean and excellent service.
janjay Posted May 21, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 21, 2004 Mostly curious about the food and entertainment. I am not a that concerned about the food anything I don't have to cook is great! But the entertainment was a bit on the average side that first year. Also, can we take our own bottled water on board?
42trvl Posted May 22, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 22, 2004 I don't see any problems with taking your own water on board. We didn't, but noticed others who had brought soda/water on board. As far as the entertainment, it really comes down to personal preferances and opinions. The daytime activities/entertainment were sufficient for us. There were a couple of good bands/musicians playing at times. But we found the evening entertainment in the theatre not so entertaining...

JNLROSE Posted May 24, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 24, 2004 We were on the Summit in Feb-Mar---Best cruise experience we have had! We thought the food was OK, not great, but OK. The Entertainment we thought was above what we expected from previous Celebrity cruises. We had heard it was not that good, and we actually found it to be GREAT! We thought the Summit had it ALL!!!! fllady Posted May 24, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 24, 2004 Summit is our favorite Celebrity ship! We have been on her 3 times and have never been disappointed. Enjoy! Also heard that she goes into dry dock in Sept. so after that she'll be like new again! cpzcruisenewbie Posted May 27, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 27, 2004 We just got off the Summit last Friday. And this was our first cruise so I have no comparison. As far as maintenance goes, the ship looks very well maintained to me and we didn't notice anything looking shabby at all with one exception. The upholstery for a couple of the chairs at our table was in pretty bad shape and the button in the center of the back was missing on one. In the casino, the staff came by to inventory chairs and mentioned they were inventorying the whole ship to decide which chairs were in the worst shape. So I'm sure they will be fixing them in blocks over the next serveral sailings. The hull was being painted while we were in every port so perhaps they do this constantly as it didn't look that bad to me. The food lived up to our expectations based on what I had read on this board. The service was fantastic. The daily activities were plentiful, although we mostly relaxed and didn't partake in much of it. The evening entertainment was mixed. We thought the acts that were brought on were pretty good but that the celebrity dancers and singers were not much to see. Both productions we saw were pretty bad. Simon did mention during a talk that two dancers were out injured and one singer had left the ship for a family emergency. But as they say, the show must go on, and I don't think it did that very well. Anyway, hope this helps. We had a fantastic trip and are sailing again with Celebrity in December! bananavan Posted May 27, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 27, 2004 So Simon is still the CD? Great. He was our CD on the Summit November 2002. We will be taking the repositioning Alaska trip in September and staying on through the Panama. Simon will be so sick of seeing us by the time we get back to Lauderdale! Right now I am having a blast watching the bridgecam. (Raining in Victoria today.) My husband keeps reminding me that I really need to get a life. Thanks for the update
cpzcruisenewbie Posted May 28, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 28, 2004 Bananavan - Simon is indeed still on the Summit and I can see now why everyone likes him so much. He was full of energy and the one time I stopped to ask him a question by the pool, he was very helpful and engaging. As an FYI - Simon's contracts run 4 months on/2 months off right now. So I'm not sure how long he has been on, but at some point soon, he will take 2 months off and then presumably will come back to Summit, but could end up on a different ship. Hopefully he will be there for you in September, but we're hoping he might be on the Constellation in December! Cheers, Carol Constellation - Dec 11 2004 - Southern Caribbean Summit - May 7 2004 - S.
