Zigster Posted September 1, 2005 #26 Share Posted September 1, 2005 Thank you Trent. That is the hotel we'll be staying at. Tried to get the Marriott Marina, but no availability due to the boat show. We'll be getting in late so we just have to worry about dinner. From what I gather on these boards there's a seafood restaurant close by. Like the other poster I agree, what would we do without these boards!
coiran Posted September 1, 2005 #27 Share Posted September 1, 2005 That Courtyard is directly adjacent from the Bass Pro Shop complex which has the Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant in it - good seafood at a good price. About a 3 minute walk. Ron
TrentS Posted September 1, 2005 #28 Share Posted September 1, 2005 Yeah, this is Islamorada Fish Company... http://www.ifcstonecrab.com/ritem.cfm?cat=63 IIRC there's also a Subway or something like that in Bass Pro Shops, but that's it. There are no grocery, drug or liquor stores within walking distance.

TrentS Posted September 2, 2005 #30 Share Posted September 2, 2005 Yes, the Holiday Inn Express on SE 17th Street is in a great location, everything you could want is within easy walking distance... Go a couple of blocks west to the corner of Cordova Road & SE 17th Street (at the Embassy Suites), there's a Publix (grocery, beer, wine) in a new strip mall just south on Cordova Road, and a Crown Wine & Spirits store a half block north on Cordova Road (behind the Chevron station). There's also a Walgreens a block or so east of the Holiday Inn Express, across from the Renaissance Hotel. There are a lot of restaurants scattered throughout the area. lojill Posted September 5, 2005 #32 Share Posted September 5, 2005 Margie did you get that 128 rate direct ? I called and they said the 128 was just for the internet. Direct would cost me 143. I'm leaving Feb12. Did you book your flight yet and if so what airlines did you use and did you get a good price. Should i book my hotel now at Holiday INN 17TH. Margie1983us Posted September 5, 2005 #33 Share Posted September 5, 2005 Lojill, I did book my flights. Air Tran had a two day sale and we got RT for $195. Much better than I thought we were going to have to pay. Prices had steadily risen since we first booked our cruise so I thought I had missed out on the cheap airfares. Prices are hoovering around $260 right now. As for the hotel, I did call and book and I cannot find my confirmation page for the details. When I find it I will post back. :)
Cruisin Amy Posted September 5, 2005 #34 Share Posted September 5, 2005 We Booked the Courtyard by Marriott by Bass Pro and got $126.00 with AAA. We thought it would be good for 1 night with 11 people including 5 kids our plane lands at 6 so by the time we got there we would love to just shop and eat at Bass Pro... Pellegrino Posted September 15, 2005 #35 Share Posted September 15, 2005 Has anyone stayed at the Hampton, on Stirling Rd at the Ft. Lauderdale airport? Thlis was the one place I could find so far for the Oct. 28th thru 29th stay. So surprised since for the last 2-3 years, we have been able to find a room on PL for this time. Any help would be appreciated. Will continue to look on Pl Thanks.
Jan_In_Maine Posted September 15, 2005 #36 Share Posted September 15, 2005 Is the end of October always a busy time period in Florida? - we will need pre-cruise hotel for 10/27/06 (over a year away) will I run into problems if I wait to book next summer? TrentS Posted September 15, 2005 #37 Share Posted September 15, 2005 Jan, YES, you will... Book as soon as you can... The end of October (October 27-31 this year) is the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the largest boat show in the world and all the hotels fill up far in advance. lojill Posted October 19, 2005 #38 Share Posted October 19, 2005 Trent you gave me some good info on the Holiday Inn Express on 17th the convention center. Is that a good hotel for a 1 night stay. My sister mentioned the Sterling. I told them the Holiday was a no frills but safe and clean for 1 night . At 128 dollars that is not bad. What do you think
TrentS Posted October 19, 2005 #39 Share Posted October 19, 2005 Yes, Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" on SE 17th Street is a great pre-cruise hotel. It's a no frills budget hotel, but is a newer hotel, is clean, safe, and in the best location for cruisers, especially those without a car. It's less than 10 minutes from the airport and just outside the entrance to the port. There are many many restaurants, shops, grocery, drug, liquor stores as well as the Water Taxi all within easy, safe walking distance. "Sterling"? I assume you mean Sterling Suites??? That's SW of the airport, next to I-95, and looks pretty run-down. I haven't been inside, but I would pass on it, it's Trip Advisor reviews are pretty bad... http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34168-d87228-Reviews-Stirling_Suites_Ft_Lauderdale_Airport-Dania_Florida.html
nzggator Posted October 23, 2005 #40 Share Posted October 23, 2005 My family and I are traveling down to Fort Launderdale on 3/17/2006 AKA St Patties Day. Right now we are looking for a hotel. I have read this thread and the Holiday Inn on 17th Street sounds like a great place to stay. Since we will be in Flordia on St Patties Day we thought we might celebrate. Have some corned beef and cabbage. We are considering this hotel but others are in mind too. Does anyone have any experence or knowledge (of the area) with the Hampton Inn Stes Fll Arpt on 2500 Stirling Road? It says they will give you a hot breakfast, free shuttle to the Pier and the 3rd person is free (in the same room) Is this hotel around any shops or restaurants? Is this in a good neighborhood? Here's a link to the hotel http://travel.travelocity.com/hotel/HotelDetail.do;jsessionid=820A9A31DDEB037AE38B7588E28EBD75.p0226?propertyId=22898&startIndex=0&showMap=0&sortOrder=ascPOSPicks&sortAlpha=-1&tab=features&SEQ=11300816545769232005&hotelQKey=5545309572409487674 Any thing else would be appreciated. lojill Posted October 25, 2005 #41 Share Posted October 25, 2005 Hey Trent have you ever cruised in Feb and if so what is the weather like. My family and friends are wondering if it will be cold on deck. We are going the western route. I'm coming from Ohio so anything will be warm. My sister went to the bahamas last year in march and she said was cold when the left out of Miami. Maybe it was paticularility cold last year but on a regular basis is it warm. We don't want to be on deck with coats.
tutak Posted October 25, 2005 #42 Share Posted October 25, 2005 I believe that Trent is without power, so I will give you my two cents. We've sailed out of Fort Lauderdale deveral times in Frebruary and always wore shorts. However, it can get cool, especially at night. Since we are from Akron, its always warm to us. We are sailing out of FLL again this coming February, also. I will bring a zip up sweatshirt to wear on deck at night if necessary.
TrentS Posted October 25, 2005 #43 Share Posted October 25, 2005 No, my building is one of the few with power - At night it's like living on an island, it's dark for miles around. lojill - Yes, I have cruised in February. It will be very nice in the Caribbean, and most likely in Florida too. It can be cool if a front comes down, but if not it will be gorgeous. In the winter we get cold fronts that drop the high temps into the 60s, but they don't last long. nzggator - I'd go with the Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" on SE 17th Street over the Hampton Inn. The Holiday Inn Express is just outside the entrance to Port Everglades, has an airport shuttle, and has many many more things around it. There isn't too much to walk to from the Hampton Inn. If you'll be here on St. Patrick's Day you may love this place, it's a couple of blocks from the Holiday Inn Express on SE 17th Street... http://www.waxys.com/
tutak Posted October 26, 2005 #44 Share Posted October 26, 2005 Trent, how have the hotels along 17th St. fared from the hurricane?
TrentS Posted October 26, 2005 #45 Share Posted October 26, 2005 Most of the area is without power and water. I know the Embassy Suites has roof damage, but I don't know the status of the others. I haven't had a chance to get past them yet.
Needsadvice Posted October 26, 2005 #46 Share Posted October 26, 2005 Hi, flying into Fort Lauderdale on Dec 17 for cruise beginning on Dec 18 at Port of Miami. 1. Any ideas on where to stay in FLL that has a free shuttle to the hotel -- and perhaps to the Port (we were thinking that we would have to get with Tri-county express to take us from FLL to the Port of Miami). 2. We return on Dec 24th and were going to rent a car and drive to Tampa and drop the car there. Budget gave us a good rate ($63) but we will have to take a taxi to Miami international airport b/c they do not have a shuttle ($20). Could go with Hertz since they have a Port of Miami location, but it is a little more expensive. Any suggestions as to hotel and rental agencies? Thanks! TrentS Posted October 26, 2005 #47 Share Posted October 26, 2005 Well first of all Hertz location isn't AT or IN the Port of Miami, it's in downtown Miami. You would need a taxi to get there unless they have a shuttle that will pick you up. No Fort Lauderdale hotels will shuttle you to the Port of MIAMI. Very few still have free airport shuttles. The SE 17th Street hotels are 10 minutes from FLL and there are many many restaurants, shops, grocery, drug, & liquor stores within easy walking distance. AmeriSuites and the Holiday Inn Express on SE 17th Street both have airport shuttles... starfamily Posted October 28, 2005 #48 Share Posted October 28, 2005 We are scheduled to stay at the wyndham airport for our thanksgiving cruise the night before and the comfort suites airport and cruiseport (federal hwy) for our Feb. precruise. cvhees Posted October 28, 2005 #49 Share Posted October 28, 2005 We were booked at the Holiday Inn FLL Beach, which is closed until the 7th or 11th, depending on who you speak to. My husband hates airport hotels, but we need to confirm a room for November 5th. Unfortunately the boat show has been moved to November 3-6 and most available hotel rooms are being gobbled up for that. Is the Wyndham FLL Airport okay? We booked for $109. Thank you! TrentS Posted October 28, 2005 #50 Share Posted October 28, 2005 Wyndham FLL airport and Comfort Suites on Federal Hwy. would normally not be places I would recommend, but if you're coming soon, under the current circumstances you have to take what you can get. They'll be fine for a night. Neither one have damage, just don't have their power back yet, but more and more places are coming back online all the time and I would think power would be back in those areas by next week. If you're not coming until February though I would try for someplace along SE 17th Street. Those hotels that I listed above are all nicer places and closer to everything. There's nothing to walk to at all from Wyndham FLL, and other than fast food it's a longish walk to anything from Comfort Suites Federal Hwy.
