Last day and cases!

Hi, our first cruise soon and have a quick question, it is a fly/cruise on Ventura in the Caribbean. I have read that you leave your cases outside your door on the last night, well what do you do with the things you need for the morning that need to go in the case? Things like toothpaste, deodorant, pyjamas, sun screen, are they allowed in your hand luggage? Sorry if I am just being a bit silly here!

Thanks!

Yes, you can put those things in your hand luggage as you leave the cruise. However, you will need to transfer those items to your checked luggage prior to arrival at the airport.

You are correct, you won't see them again until the UK.

So your best option is to pack the "solids" such as your pyjamas* and toothbrush in your hand luggage when you leave and try to time your sun lotion/deoderant so you just have enough for that last morning then bin it on the ship, or buy travel sizes of toothpaste etc that are allowed in your liquids bag.

Will you need sunscreen for that last morning?

*just sleep naked on the last night.

Ok thanks, do you get your cases back at the airport then, I thought you didn't get them until arriving back in Uk, that's why I wondered about fluids?

If you are using the valet service, then you have to make a choice ...

1) Don't use the service and check your bags at the airport yourself.

2) Go without toothpaste, deodorant and sun screen for the day.

3) Use the toothpaste, deodorant & sunscreen and then throw the items away prior to arrival at the airport.

4) If the items are small enough (the 3-1-1 rule) then you can take them in your carry-on luggage.

5) Put the items in your carry-on luggage, explain to the TSA agent why you are trying to take banned items on the airplane. Watch as the TSA agent confiscates any banned items.

In short, the rules for carry-on on a cruise ship and the rules for carry-on on an airplane are different.

The 3-1-1 rule ...

You are allowed to bring one small bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes through the checkpoint. These are limited to 3.4 ounces or less per container. Consolidating these containers in the small bag separate from your carry-on baggage enables TSA officers to screen them quickly.

3-1-1 for carry-ons. Liquids, gels, aerosols, creams and pastes must be 3.4 ounces (100ml) or less per container; must be in 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. The bag limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring.

Be prepared. Each time a TSA officer stops to physically screen a carry-on bag, it slows down the line. Practicing the 3-1-1 rule will facilitate the checkpoint experience.

Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula/food and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces, and they don’t have to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint. TSA officers may need to open them for additional screening.

If in doubt, put your liquids, gels, aerosols, creams and pastes in checked baggage.

Your reply relates to disembarking from a cruise in the USA. This topic is about disembarking from a cruise in Babados for a flight to the UK. There are no TSA officers in Barbados.

As has already been said, the procedure with P&O is that your main luggage is put outside your cabin on your last night and you will not see this again until you arrive in the UK.

You still have to comply with the rules on liquids in hand luggage.

As most people will not depart the ship until the afternoon, there is usually a secure place allocated to store your hand luggage should you wish.

We have always used one of those tiny tubes of toothpaste - often given out on the outward flight - and have also used a travel size of deodorant which can go in the see-through plastic bag that you have to show at security. Likewise for things like hairspray etc. - I stock up online either from a company that specialises in "tiny" sizes or from a supermarket that has travel size stuff - no more than 100ml. It's never been a problem.

On our last cruise on our last day, I noticed that someone had left a number of large size toiletries in the ladies by the sink (hairspray, deodorant etc). Presumably for anyone who had boarded the day before who wanted them, as they couldn't take them through the airport.

How do you know that? I don't see an itinerary.

You don't need an itinery. The original poster said it was a fly cruise on Ventura which is P&O ship operating fly cruises in the winter based from Barbados.

For what the cost, just leave the liquids behind. As for pyjamas, you can go commando for a night:rolleyes: :)

Pajamas are allowed in carry-on luggage on an airplane, even in the US.

We take small plastic bottles (less than 100ml) for anything we need also we don't throw away any empty bottles of sun screen and put a bit in those for the last day and throw away before leaving the ship.

As for clothes we pack our travelling clothes in our hand luggage, leave in the theatre for the day then change just before flight is called.

It just takes a bit of thinking about and planning to make the journey stress free as possible. We have never had our hand luggage weighed at Barbados but there again we have never abused the restrictions.

I am sure our hold luggage is over weight a bit going home but again don't abuse and you should be okay.

In fact we have usually packed on the morning of our last full day so we can enjoy the day without having to rush back to the cabin before dinner or after dinner it just takes a bit of thinking about.

I suppose that is the downside to either a package where your bags are checked in for you or you need to put them out the night before.

As we usually book our own flights we tend to keep our cases with us in the med and roll them off ourselves the final morning.

On USA or Caribbean flights we leave it outside the door and collect when we disembark and then chop and change any items from the hand luggage to suitcase before checking in for our flight.

Our cases were to be collected from outside our room at 10 but it was actually 11 before they went which meant we could quickly put the clothes we were wearing on the last night in them, we slept naked and left all our toiletries behind once we had used them so all in all quite straightforward

We've put our cases out at 2am and they've still gone and I bet even after that they would still be collected.
