Adele1 Posted January 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2015 For those who have tendered in recently are there cabs at the port if one wishes to do their own thing? Thanks in advance! Rhea
mpk218 Posted January 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2015 I think you can count on cabs at just about every port .. if you happen to be going to the baths on Virgin Gorda , its short walk to the ferry ... Exit ship , turn left ;)
Adele1 Posted January 28, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Thanks mph218; have not been there - do you know how long the ferry ride is and often they go as we have only a short time in port which is also a tender port so that cuts down on the time there also. Squidward Q Tentacles Posted January 28, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 28, 2015 If you are going to the the Baths be careful if you do it on your own. On our Dec 1, 2015 cruise the ferry getting back was late and some of our friends almost missed getting back in time. What saved them was that were about 30 people on a ship excursion and they were late because of the same ferry ride.

If you are doing Tortola for one of the short days, meaning 7-1....DO NOT do it on your own. Just do the ship excursion....its not worth it. Cabs to the beach are fine...brewers bay or cane garden bay, both great options....but DON'T go to Virgin Gorda (a completely separate island) on your own. Sailin Gal Posted January 28, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 28, 2015 There are plenty of cabs. I definitely would not try to go to VG on your own, especially with a short window. BVI ferry schedules can be very unreliable.

AlwaysNeedSun Posted January 29, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 29, 2015 We did the baths when we went there on the Gem this past Dec. Great place to be, wish we had more time there. It almost felt like our own private beach even though there were a good amount of people there. Going thru the caves was a lot of fun too. There were 9 of us including a 4y/o and 6y/o who had a ball! We booked it thru NCL because it was such a short time there so we can guarantee we wouldn't get left behind if we were running late. Sure enough, we had a tour guide who told us at 11:40 the ride back to the ferry after the baths was leaving at noon and we had time to go to the gift shop. We were out there 11:55am and was told all the taxi's went back to the ferry already by the tour guides. Somebody was able to call the tour guide and they came back for us but had everybody on the ferry waiting about 30mins for us. So obviously, we were late getting back to the ship. But they waited for us because we were booked on a NCL excursion. So me personally, I would book it thru the ship if you decide to go. Have fun and we would definitely go again. AlwaysNeedSun Posted January 29, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 29, 2015 Also, if you book it thru NCL they pick you up and drop you off right at the ship... You don't get picked up from land. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rhea Yes there are taxis very close and as mentioned, the ferry to Virgin Gordo is right there near the dock. You won't have any problems.
