When to begin booking excursions

So we are going on our first Med cruise and have booked a year and a half in advance! What is the protocol for booking excursions with outside operators? Is it too early to begin contacting them for quotes? We will DIY most ports but Ephesus is one where we know we will need transportation and some help.

follow threads about popular tour operators and mail them with enquiries
you will soon get a feel whether they are the right ones for you
if you want extra people to join you to share cost post on your roll call
