Easiest Vancouver hotel/transportation combo?

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately we have no time to stay and explore Vancouver so looking for an easy hotel and transportation to port combo for our upcoming cruise.

I am late to planning and have tried reading through posts on the forum but most people are planning on doing some exploring in Vancouver which we are not. Our flight gets in at 9pm the night before departure and we will just want to get to a hotel, sleep and head to the port in the morning to board the Radiance of the Seas.

Just looking for a decent place to sleep and easy transportation to the hotel and then to the port the next morning. I don't want to have to drag our bags too far as I'll have 2 whiny teens with me :) I do like the idea of dropping our bags with the porters and then maybe taking some time to see something in town. What time do the porters usually start taking bags for the next cruise?

Any suggestions would be very helpful. TIA!!!

Easiest - take a taxi from the airport to the Pan Pacific Hotel located at Canada Place. The next morning take the elevator down to the port terminal, drop your luggage, wander around Vancouver, walk back and check in.

It's the easiest but probably the most expensive too!

Yeah, probably the most expensive. I just don't see much point in paying for a great location, nice hotel when i will only be sleeping there. If I we had an extra day i would be solving a much different problem :)

You could a cruise and stay package near the airport in Richmond. They have a package where you stay a night and get transfers supplied to the pier in the morning. Most hotels in Richmond near YVR have 24 hour shuttles .

As K50 said above, airport hotels are all going to provide a shuttle to get you to/from YVR. If you have budgeted for a cab the next day to the pier, it really doesn't matter which hotel you pick - so choose one that gets you chain points, a free night from points, or just the best price.

If you are considering transit then the hotels close to Bridgeport Skytrain station become the best choice - Days Inn, Hampton Inn, or River Rock casino if you fancy something a little classier.

You should be able to drop off bags from 9:30am at the pier (officially though it's 10:30am when the longshoremen start taking new bags). Even if you play it safe with a 10:30am drop-off you'll have more than enough time to wander Gastown, have lunch etc.

Can you share your arrival date? We can provide better suggestions on pricing and availability.

2 adults & 2 teens be arriving on June 11.

I can get the Four Points by Sheraton near the airport for $135 Canadian +tax with a US government rate. They have an airport shuttle. It looks like it is a very short walk across a shopping center parking lot to the Lansdowne sky train station.

Does this sound reasonable?

I have tons of marriott points but there aren't any marriott rooms available in the city that i can find.

June 11 has Vancouver hosting the Fifa womens games where many downtown hotel rooms are booked/blocked.

I haved some friends who stayed at the Four Points and it's a good place to stay, especially at that rate. Lots of Asian food options across the street. It's unofficially called "Food Street" in the area. Silver Tower Cafe is my fav budget place to eat a short walk away. There's also McD if the kids want that Canadian Happy meal.

The Lansdowne station is a significant walk from the hotel... especially with luggage. I recommend a taxi for $35 to the cruise terminal for simplicity. When you add up the subway price for the family.... the convenience of the taxi may be worth it.

With regards to the hotel shuttle.... I forgot if it's schedule or on call at night. If it is on-call... ask them how long will it take to get there.... it may be simplier to catch one of the many cabs to the hotel to get a good sleep before the cruise date the next morning.

More than reasonable; the Skytrain (Canada Line) will get you from Lansdowne to Waterfront; just a couple of blocks from the cruise terminal. If you've got a bunch of people taking transit (especially if you're going back and forth), you can buy books of tickets in 10 packs which saves a little bit more.

Thank you for the replies! The women's FIFA world cup ... bummer we won't be able to catch a game but it does help explain the hotel situation :)

I think I'll go ahead with this plan for now. If we end up with too much luggage to make the trek to the skytrain station we can use the cab option.

Wish we had another day but we just can't get there any earlier. Flying out a few hours after of my son's last final exam for the year.

Normally Vancouver is a hotel surplus. Even during the Olympics... rooms were available. Only the budget rooms were sold out. Fifa is only creating a shortage downtown.

For others looking for hotel suggestions near the airport and like public transit (Canada Line subway). I strongly recommend the affordable Raddison. The station is across the street and it's 20 minutes downtown. Get a $9 day pass and you can go anywhere in Vancouver for free on public transit! The only deal breaker for me is luggage. I prefer a $35 taxi.
