Does anyone not like the Splendor design and why?

Not my favorite. I am not a fan of the Lido lid. I found that on some days the lid would be closed when we had perfectly clear skies. Also because of the lid, the track blocks the perimeter on the deck above. Whereas on ships without there is a rail so you can stand at it and look down onto the lido. You can't on the splendor. I also wish that it had the pasta bar instead of the rotisserie.

Just woundering about this ships design and what one thinks about it....

I know it sounds weird..but I feel more "closed in" on the Splendor. I don't like the "flow" of the interior. Would I cruise on it again? Yes...but Spirit class is my favorite.

I thought the Splendor had the same layout as the Valor? I was not a fan of that layout, but I guess I got a little more exercise trying to get from one end of the ship to the other on certain floors :)

We just got off the Splendor 4/5 and enjoyed it. The pink is not as bad as we had heard. To get to your dining room easily just head aft or forward (depending on your dining room) to the elevators/stairs and then head to the floor that you need for dining. I didn't find Lido confining. Enjoy your cruise!

she is actually bigger. She is the sister to the Costa Concordia - or was to be the sister - when the ship was ordered she was originally ordered for Costa and for some reason it was decided they didn't need her - the ship was then reassigned (at the shipbuilders) to be a Carnival Ship. She is in her own class and is the only one of her size in Carnival's fleet.

We have sailed her once, but will board her again in May. We loved our cruise from NYC and are looking forward to leaving from Miami in May - this is the same itinerary we did in January and we have decided we will probably not leave the ship until Mahogany Bay. Can't wait!

We enjoyed the SPLENDOR. Yeah, the pink is a little much but, for some reason, it seems to work. Getting around the ship is a little bit of a challenge, but once people learn that deck five is their friend, it's pretty easy. As a rule, I'm not a fan of any retractable roof, but since I'm not a sit-out-by-the-pool guy, SPLENDOR's wasn't an issue. It doesn't have the silly, tiered stadium type seating, which, IMO, is a plus. I also like the openness of the stern...much better than the ships with the retractable roof over the aft pool.

When we sailed, the ship was one of the cleanest I had ever been on, and she was in excellent condition.

If I had to find fault, it would be that she's yet to sport the 2.0 'enhancements' (a word that's debatable to some). I also think the rotisserie is a waste of space....they should turn it into a Cucina Del Capitano. Purists won't like the fact that the exterior decks are either painted or covered with a simulated teak rubber coating......there's no real teak .

If I wasn't on a mission to sail on as many ships as I possibly can, I wouldn't have a problem sailing on the SPLENDOR again.

Ok... So what positives or tips are there on the Splendor, since I just booked for Novemver

Here's a good tip:

The forward outside observation areas can only be reached by going inside and walking all the way forward on decks 6 and 7 (for areas below the bridge), and decks 9 and 10 (for areas above the bridge). These are fantastic vantage points when entering or leaving a point...and hardly no one knows about them. When you get to the forward end of each deck, there are wooden doors that lead to outside.

Thank you!!! I will add to my notes! How are the balcony rooms?

You bet.

We had a balcony (6355), and the room itself was great, BUT, it's not a good room if you retire early...it's right over the band's stage in the casino, and you can hear every note. They usually started as we were getting ready for dinner – we knew their entire song list by the end of the cruise – and they didn't stop until about 11pm or so. For us, it wasn't a problem, since we tend to stay out until about midnight.

We are in 8281, so I'm guessing since higher up it should be ok? Although we stay out at night as well.

Thanks Again for your help!!

Sailed on her in November, and I have to say it was one of my favourite ships.

Interior is not as bad as in pictures, it seems very Vegas like.

I was a little bit concerned about the main pool lido deck, but to tell you the truth, I loved it. It was open most of the time, except for the last few days where we had rough weather. We were definitely thankful we were able to watch movies under the roof and generally spent a lot of time up there during the rough weather.

Personally the Lido layout made more sense to me.

Oh good! Please let me know when you do your review! I have a great time no matter where I go and where I stay... It's a vacation, that's what's it for.. FUN! But I would love to know of things I should do or avoid so I make the best of my time.

I have two Splendor reviews in my signature, so plenty of info to assimilate.

Oh, and we're going back on her again the end of June!:)

I recommend clicking on the ship name at the top of the page. You'll find lots of threads/reviews about her.

I sailed her 11/1 on the 2nd leg of the repositioning (from San Juan to Miami).

While I liked the open aft area better than the closed-in aft on Conquest-class ships, I also did not care for the main Lido area. Now, bear in mind that I don't spend any time, really, around the pools, but had hoped to catch part of a movie one night and it was very hot and humid there even with the roof open.

At least there's a Serenity Deck, but it's broken up by the fact that the spa is two decks on this ship.

If food matters to you, there's no Guy's or Blue Iguana. And although some people love the Rotisserie upstairs, I prefer the Fish & Chips on the Conquest class ships.

I'm booked on her again for the Bermuda sailing in October. I may end up cancelling but it won't be because of the ship. I don't pick my cruises for the ships. I pick them for the itinerary, mainly.
