tartanexile81 Posted April 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2015 Just read about this volcano near Puerto Montt which ahs just erupted after being dormant for decades. Here's a link to the story on the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-32425370
Rare ski ww Posted April 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2015 We watched it on the news this morning. That`s not going to do the air quality any good. Glad we`re not living in the area. Allan
Northern Aurora Posted April 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2015 We were in Puerto Montt last month, and actually drove along a road which skirts the base of the volcano which is currently erupting. We recognize some of the buildings in Puerto Montt in the CNN coverage.

I've also seen photos taken from across Lake Llanhiquhe (sp?) from Puerto Varas and we stood right there only 6 weeks ago. dr__dawggy Posted April 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2015 I just read this morning that most flights into and out of Buenos Aires have been cancelled due to volcanic ash in the air from the Chilean eruption. If you are planning to fly home, you might want to check with your airline. http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1787223-ezeiza-suspenden-y-desvian-vuelos-internacionales-por-las-cenizas-del-calbuco

dr__dawggy Posted April 27, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) Bariloche, not Buenos Aires which is far away from the volcano. That is inaccurate. It was Buenos Aires as well as Bariloche. "Ezeiza: suspended and diverted international flights by ash from Calbuco"...from the link. Ezeiza Airport is the country's primary international airport, and is located in BA. The closing was temporary and is probably reopened by now. Winds carried ash as far as Brazil. Edited April 28, 2015 by dr__dawggy
