change of passenger name

Has anyone had to change the name of one of the passengers in their cabin a week before the cruise? The friend I was bringing on the cruise may not be able to make it. Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing, because my wife and I booked before we married, under her maiden name. We have non-refundable air also booked in the maiden name.

 

The advice I have received so far was to defer changing her name on the passport until after the cruise, but to go ahead with changing the driver's license, since the passport was all we would need to show as ID for the airline and the cruise line.

Yes there is a $50.00 fee. You might need to pick up the new doc once you get to the ship since it is only a week. Not much time for mailing. I would trust the mailing system unless fed-ex overnight priority next morning am delivery.

Carnival charges a $50 administrative fee for any changes made after the original booking.

I've heard that sometimes the cruise lines can get a little reluctant to change the name so close to the cruise so that's why I'm wondering if anyone has done it this close to the sailing date.

You can change but do it asap. Then go to Carnival.com and edit your funpass. This will prevent you from having to order new docs which is $50 on top of any other fees they charge you for changing.

I don't think any name changes are allowed 72 hours prior sailing, because the cruise line has to submit its final manifest to U.S. Security.

We just changed one 3 weeks out and it was $50.00. The new docs will be at the pier.

Generally you CAN change it for $50... however, if your ship is soldout or overbooked, they won't allow for name changes (they would rather you cancel)... I had to deal with this in October. I was able to get around it, after about 200 phone calls and having some friends in high places helping out ;) So do it as soon as possible!!! :D
