Been reading through the forum but can't find if there is a local bus that you can get from Salerno port along the Amalfi Coast to Sorrento (and back again!). Does anyone know if this is available?

We have been to Naples port before and went to Pompeii so we would like to DIY Amalfi Coast & Sorrento this time.

Thanks a lot :)

Yes, the regional buses are called "SITA" and there is a route that runs between Salerno and Sorrento. However, this is a pretty long ride and the buses can be crowded. If you want to use the bus we would suggest taking it as far as Positano and spending some time enjoying that picturesque city. Then take another bus back to Amalfi and, asssuming you have a few hours, get off the bus and take a quick look at Amalfi. Then go back to the square (where you go off the bus) and catch a different bus up to Ravello which is an amazing town with spectacular views (and great Lemoncello). If you still want to use buses you would then have to bus back to Amalfi and catch the next bus to Salerno. So you do need to allow several hours for the Ravello side trip. Another option would be to use a taxi between Amalfi and Ravello, but the price is a matter of negotiation and might blow your budget.

As to the bus schedule (and info) just Google "SITA bus from Salerno to Positano (or Sorrento) and you will find the link.

Another possibility is to catch a fast boat from Salerno to Positano (or Sorrento) but this would be a matter of luck (and perhaps good planning) as there are not a lot of boats.

It's difficult to get to the Amalfi Coast and back within the confines of a port day using public transit. It can be done but you spend as much (or more) time getting there and back as you do actually being there.

You can do a lot of it by ferry boat. They move at a good clip but it's nothing like a speed boat.

Much depends on your arrival and departure times in Naples. If you will share that we can give you more specific information.
