Is Cozumel a port you can get off of and walk around, shop , eat? Are beaches within walking distance? Trying to figure out which ports to do excursions in. Can't afford all of them. We are going to Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and Cosa Maya. Any suggestions on what ports to book at is appreciated.

What ship are you on? It'll matter as to which pier you dock at. For the downtown pier, all shopping and many restaurants are within walking distance. There re a couple of places, like Margaritaville and Carlos and Charlies with beaches near downtown. At the International Pier, there's less shopping. but next door on one side is Puerta Maya ier wth lots of shopping. and on the other side are a couple of hotels with day passes. Most beaches are a taxi ride away.

We are on Carnival Valor. There are 6 of us. I'm thinking we would need 2 taxis. But that is a great option.

There are van cabs that will carry all 6 of you - fares will be posted near the cab line for your pier, but expect to pay about $30 each way (for the cab, not per person) to get to the popular beach clubs (Paradise, Mr. Sanchos, Playa Mia, etc.). Cabs in Coz are well regulated (unlike Philadelphia!), but it never hurts to confirm the fare BEFORE you get into the cab.

Belize is the one port where you will absolutely want to book an excursion.

If you don't there is very little to do there. ;)

I would take a cab to a beach in Cozumel (Paradise Beach or Nachi Cocum are both popular options).

You can book ship or non-ship tours in Belize (I've done it and they're both wonderful), but there is nowhere to really walk to wander on your own.

Try to go snorkeling in Roatan! You can see over 100 feet down with perfect clarity.

Skip spending money in Costa Maya. You can get off the ship and shop around the port, grab a drink, and if you're brave, dip in the port pool :)
