What are "stand By " rates?

Just got an email from Princess with deeply discounted cruises. Can these be booked or do they put you on a wait list?

I have always been able to book them right away. Never had a stand by situation.

I have received "standby deal" e-mails in the past, but the one in my inbox today is titled "Drop and Go" which is pretty good targeting as I certainly have done that in the past living so close to Port Everglades.

Are these fares available throught the cruiseline and a TA?

From my observation it has been a long time since those fares were exclusive to the targeted recipients or even Captains Circle members in general. You can see the fares on princess.com even without logging in. I imagine if booked through your TA there would be little or none of the regular perks they normally offer as the commission on these fares is certainly negligible.

That's my experience, although our TA will still usually send us something such as a bottle of wine.
