Wet Lizard was ALL WET !!

We have been to Belize many times over the last 15 years & always by cruise ship.

This time we were walking around in the Tourist Village & decided to try the Wet Lizard for lunch & a cool drink & up the stairs we went.

Their service was so frickin slow that we had one beer & asked for a menu so we could see what we wanted for lunch & ordered another round & neither ever made it to our table, overlooking the crowd. We were able to catch the server's eye several times but - nothing. So we left $10 on the table & left the building.

There were four ships in that day, way too many people in the Tourist Village, but everyone in the port area is aware of how many ships there will be in port on any given day.

We'd NEVER try this place again - ever.

No flaming as the above in IMHO.

Hi! Noticed it was your first post! Welcome to Cruise Critic! :)

We've always REALLY enjoy Wet Lizard! Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Guess this sort of thing can happen anyplace from time to time. ;)

Not our first post. Our ISP changed & we had a problem getting back into this site so we started all over again, after many years on this site.

Glad you're back ... even if you did have to start all over again. :)

Back to your post: Was this your first time at Wet Lizard?

What did you enjoy on your other port stops in Belize?

We liked snorkel excursions to their Barrier Reef. If not, the Wet Lizard worked for us. Think you may have been there on a bad day which can and does happen anyplace from time to time.

Bill the Wet Lizaed is the most touristy and visited place in the port so it can get very busy, and after 15 times in this port you would know that. We were there on a big ship day and the staff was extremely overworked but did get to us. We weren't in any hurry, and in the meantime we amused ourselves with the hat balloons they have laying around. So just sayin' - you're at THE busiest spot in the port and can expect slow service and even others that came in after getting waited on before you - it happens. Not a place to go when you have limited time and you can see how busy they are. Same with the riverfront cafes in Willenstad, Curaçao. Just have to enjoy the vibe while waiting...

You can also try and make an effort to catch the server coming and going from the kitchen and give her/him a wink and a nice "Boy you are busy! We're ready for our beers when you can get to them".

Just seems unnecessary to post this because it is such a busy spot and the staff there works so hard normally.

Next visit, for a really laid back day try the Lazy Lizard on Caye Caulker if you haven't already. Away from the bustling port and crowds...

While I agree with Blue water that this can be the busiest place at the port, we have also been there when half the tables upstairs were empty and have had a similar experience as Bill. Service was so slow that we finished our drinks and still had not had the server take our food order. We paid for the drinks and left. Different days, different experiences I guess but we don't go back there anymore either.

And I don't mean to be insensitive to being ignored when you see staff that is not busy. That turns you off and unfortunately impacts the business. Some staff are excellent, some mediocre, and some should walk the plank! :p
