the local car rentals all have drop boxes

after hours you can park the car and drop the keys in the box ... your time will be under 24 hours

just arrange a taxi to meet you at the rental place to take you to the ship

p.s. have you checked what the hours of the park are the day you plan to attend?

my map to the Canaveral rental places appears about once a week .... SEARCH?

Harry Potter at Universal- please advise! We are big Harry Potter fans! We want to go badly on a shore tour to Universal only to see HP. We went on a shore tour in early December years ago before the HP expansion and loved it. We want to go again, and are willing to spend the money. We don't care about the rest of the park. BUT we are going on a Christmas cruise 2016 and our Port Canveral day is Dec23. I'm worried being so close to Christmas about the crowds. Would we still be able to do all of the HP parks well in our shore time? We are docked 8 am till 930pm.

Thanks for any help!

Don't know about Universal, but Disney closed the park to day pass visitors a couple of days during the week after Christmas due to crowding.

Yes, I heard that, but didn't know about Universal. Plus it's very pricy to go with the transportation and all from the cruise ship... maybe it's better to take a trip to HP world separately ( they have some good stay and ticket deals if we go soon) and then go to the beach on the port stop?

a couple of points to ponder

with the HP expansion, parts of HP are in each of the two parks .... SO to see ALL of HP you must buy a 2 park ticket which for one day is $147 (today) ...

yes the local news did mention Disney having closure of the gates a day last week. I was at Universal the following day, went to see Blue Man Group for the 3pm show. Of all the times I've been to Universal I'd say the Citywalk area and the parkinging lots were the LEAST crowded I've ever seen and I've been about a dozen times in the last 6 years (I escort HS band trips). Why was the crowd down? I dunno, but I was able to get a table for dinner at Emeril's as a walk up with NO wait ..... inconceivable!

True I did not go INTO either theme park but like I said the parking lots had a LOT of room . . . lines for tickets were non existent and at dinner time all the eating places other than Bubba Gumps had no lines (why people line up for Bubba's is beyond me but that one DID have a significant crowd waiting)

Just curious, what would you do? I can fly down for 3 nights 4 days with tickets and stay (early Feb this year) in Orlando for 1,000 more than the cruise excursion (about 6 hr in the park 2 days before Christmas) will cost me. That includes air, hotel, and tickets... but not food, which I know can be pricy. Then that leaves me the port day for something closer to the ship... or I can hope to get enough done as a excursion and save the $?

Choices, Choices.

I'm biased

I can not completely ignore the fact that Ilive here

and can drive to the park any day

******************

IMO

if you have the option of heading down another time

the cruise excursion is BAD value

an oldie I've saved

Please look at this map of Port Canaveral, Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach for orientation:

it helps to pull up a map of the port and surround area for reference . .

2. Beach bus stop – For $1.25 one-way, the local beach bus will take you to Cocoa Beach (Shepard Park for Ron Jon area) or within walking distance of the famous Cocoa Beach Pier (use Publix Stop). About 30 minutes to these stops.http://www.ridescat.com/

Thanks for all the great info. I just found the port schedule, and we will be docked at CT-1 in March which looks to be a good location for the restaurants etc. Would you happen to know where the bus stops in that area and which route the beach bus would be?

There is a bus stop on George King. Right in front of T1

Here is a map showing the SCAT stops (BLUE BUS ICON) and route (MARKED IN RED).

If you zoom in to Terminal B1, you can see the SCAT stop on the NE corner of King/Flounder Streets as mentioned by John.

The SCAT route runs anti-clockwise to Cocoa Beach and back. You get off at Shepard Park for the beach and Ron Jon, but anywhere along the route you are just a block or three from the ocean!
