Anyone just back from the Spirit?

Leaving soon. Initial thoughts - the ship is in very good condition for its age. Florentina is the Concierge. Her two boys and husband were here today with her - not sure if they were just on for the day or staying. They are very well behaved young boys.

Bars are busy - food at buffet looked pretty good. Lunch at Cagneys was a bit slow - and bar service at Cagneys was super slow - bar didn't open until 12:30, restaurant opened as soon as you got on but didn't start serving until noon. Drinks finally came at 12:50 after ordering at 12:15. Embarkation began at 11:20.

They are using Term 1 this year which is about 1 year old - very orderly, clean, nice terminal.

Have a great cruise. Can't wait to hear your opinion when you get back.

We just got off yesterday (11/28/15). Our room was nice (balcony on deck 9) and kept clean. The food was average cruise cuisine nothing great and not horrible. Cagney's was excellent. The big complaint was every supper took over 2 hours some as long as 2 1/2. Early dining started at 5:30 and the early show started at 7:30. we were late to the show every night in spite of being one of the first groups to sit down at 5:30. The next issue was tendering in St. Thomas, if you booked a private excursion (other than through NCL) you most likely missed it. The last complaint would be only 1 towel animal in 7 days, my son loves the towel animals and this left him disappointed. Entertainment was cruise average as well. We still had a great time and will cruise NCL again.

we were in st Thomas on the spirit last week and we didn't tender we were docked?

I know hairdryers are on the wall in the bathroom. But, I was reading another review and the person said there were no outlets in the room for plugging in your personal hairdryer  I took it to mean the cabin not the bathroom. There must be an outlet to charge electronics - so this statement definitely has me confused.

Someone please clarify??

There was one outlet over by the desk in the cabin(and it said no hair dryers)..

and that thing they call a hairdryer is nothing more than a hose....really weird.

Really? That's so bizarre. I usually don't bring a dryer but the idea of drying my hair in a steamy bathroom is crazy! I wonder why the outlet can't be used by a dryer, things that make you go, "hummmmm"

What PH8 is describing sounds like the European style hair dryer. That would be a box mounted on the wall with a hose coming out of it to dry your hair.

In the hotels I have been to in Europe, many had an outlet in the bathroom that said "no hair dryers". They did not have enough power to run one, and tripped if you tried.

I have short hair and it would have been faster for me to blow my hair dry with my mouth than that hose.[emoji33][emoji33]

lol, either that or stick you head over the balcony railing! I just can't get around the lack of options. I have very thin hair but waves& frizzes easily - I'm doomed!

I know ship was built for the Asian market but you would think they would have retro-fitted the electrical by now :-(

Taking our 10 year old on spirit in January. Anyone recently back? How many kids on board? I am sure not a lot - just hoping she will have a couple to meet and spend time with....

On the Dec 5th cruise, there were quite a few kids...have no idea how many though. But made me think there had been a kids sail free deal.

Off the 12/12 sailing. Not a ton of kids -- when we did the behind the scenes tour we had 2242 people on our sailing and I didn't see the number of kids. I asked a couple folks later on and they weren't 100% sure but thought about 50. For the Xmas sailing, they did know that # and it was 500 kids.

dexdd - how did you find the hairdryers?

Thanks for posting your experience :)

You are one funny lady as I don't have a ton of hair (I keep it short plus it is going missing)! My DW has about shoulder length hair and surprisingly she was o.k. with it. Whenever she used it though it sounded like an old style Hoover vacuum cleaner - it didn't have a ton of power it seemed, but again, she was fine with it.

I'm trying to remember all the various questions - I jotted them down and took notes along the way. Some off the top of my head:

The Spirit is using Terminal 1 at PC. It is about one year old and a very nice terminal. Traffic wasn't very congested. When you go in you are greeted by the port folks. The line on the left to go through security is for all passengers and the line on the right is a security line for suite guests. There was no one in that line.

Once you get past that you go upstairs and you get directed to which ever particular group you are in. We were in a suite so they had an escort through the area to the far end where we waited for the next agent. Did the usual stuff. Then they took us to an open area (roped off) for the suite/vip guests. Typical snack stuff there. They started boarding at 11:20 and we were 3rd and 4th on. There were some TAs on board touring as well as the B2B folks.

We walked around the ship for awhile and throughout our 7 days noticed the ship was in very good ship for its age (better than what I've seen on the Dawn being a younger ship).

Crew was generally very pleasant and smiling. We did hear a few things about the crew feeling nickel-and-dimed (their words, not mine) under the new management. They got a party for getting a 100% on their last health inspection - that seemed to be very meaningful to them.

I have all the Dailies and will try to post sooner than later. Platinum dinner certificates said you could go to Le Bistro, the Italian Place (don't recall if they used La Trattoria name or La Cucina), and the Brazilian Steakhouse (which they don't have on the Spirit).

They had the Captain's cocktail party on Sunday night, a Latitudes Party on Sunday afternoon, and I think it was a CruiseNext party later in the week. We didn't buy a certificate this time.

Food - as always, subjective. We had great service everywhere which surprised us a bit compared to what we've had over the years. The MDR menus and what we had seemed better than what we've had over the past few years. Blue Lagoon service was great compared to some of the other ships and the last time we were on the Spirit.

Many, many people with the drink package. Created some waits but not too bad. They were generally putting drinks in the plastic cups - maybe 12 oz? Ship to us never really felt too crowded being at 2244 pax (I think I incorrectly posted 2242 on a different post).

Ha, ha, ha - so hard to figure out if posters are male or female - guess I had you pegged for a "gal"

Was the parking lot directly across the street - did it look crowded? Spaces available?

Thanks so much! Glad you had a good trip, always heard good things about the Spirit. We saw her in Venice when we were there on the Island Princess. :)

My husband and I cruised on the Spirit Nov. 28-Dec.5. We had a fantastic time. We had the aft penthouse suite. From the time we entered the port to check in to the time we were on the ship was no more than 20 min. The staff was wonderful. The ship was extremely clean, and that is very very important to me. With the suite we had the UDP. The only thing that I was a little shocked over is that I wanted Steak and Lobster tail and they charged us $11.00 extra because it counted as two dinners. Another thing I have to point out(I didn't care) is if you are in a hurry, please do not eat at Cagney's. The wait is long. If you are a steak lover it is well worth it. Have fun...

  • 2 weeks later...

Hoping to hear some more positive reviews from those coming back. What did you think? How is the crew? The food? Also looking for pictures if anyone has them. Updated ones. It really does help the time pass.

Thank you all for all your opinions and thoughts. I so appreciate it..

Norma
