Cabin Guarantee ???

I'm a first timer and forgot to ask this in my previous post. I got a very good rate on my cruise with Princess, but I have a cabin guarantee. I understand that my cabin will be assigned upon check-in at the port. Does anyone have any experience with this? My guarantee is for an inside cabin, so I would think that any inside cabin is as good as the next. Hopefully, I'm not wrong on this. Does anyone have any advise about where I should request to be put? I really don't care too much about the room, just don't want to get some awful accomodation!!!

I know some think that one cabin is just as good as the next, but that's not necessarily true. Even with an inside cabin, you can get one that's not the most desirable. If you get even a little seasick, you don't want a cabin far in front because you have the most motion. You probably wouldn't want one directly above or below the disco because sound can travel.

The problem with a guarantee is that you can't request where your room is. So unless you are willing to take anything you are given, you shouldn't book a guarantee. And yes even within the same category, inside for example, there are less desirable locations and configurations than others.

Cabin guarantees are a good way to get a slighter better price. Generally you are buying a guaranteed cabin at a certain level, (i.e. inside, outside, balcony, suite) and you will be assigned the "best" cabin available usually a couple of weeks prior to the cruise. Then the cruise line sells the other lower or less desiable cabins to other people. Ideally cruise lines should give people who buy guaranteed cabins assignment based on when you book but I don't know they do this. We have had good luck generally with guaranteed cabins most of the time getting a better cabin than if we had paid to book a particular cabin at a higher price.

Cruise cabins in the same category are basically the same, the only difference being location on the ship. This means both the deck they are on as well as whether they are towards the bow or stern or are in the middle of the ship.

All in all an inside guarantee might end up gving you an outside cabin where if you had booked a specific inside cabin that is probably what you would get. Keep your fingers crossed and see what you get. Basically as you said in your post "one inside cabin is pretty much the same as any other inside cabin".

Have a great next cruise.

my first 4 cruises were guarantee and not once did i gte upgraded- kinda lucked out that I didnt get placed in a bad spot. (think disco- casino- under a kitchen or galley)

yes, there are bad spots on a ship- if you trully dont care where thecabin is located then guarantee is for you. Now I dont take the gamble since it dont seem to work for upgrades- From reading this board you would think it happens more then it doesnt. Not the case.

Or in the back in the ship for that matter. Stay in the center and lower deck if you are prone to seasickness.

Hi

I have already had good luck with guarantee, and have always received a better cabin than what I booked. But I know this is not always the case.

I don't necessarily want an outside cabin, cause I want to be able to sleep late if I want to, without the sunlight pouring in.

So even though outside is a "higher" category, I would rather have the best inside cabin, than an outside is a bumpy or noisy location.

GOOD LUCK
