munchkin4 Posted January 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2016 Refresh my memory.....if we get off the ship using the self-assist method, we can still get the porters once we get in the terminal/warehouse to get us through the customs line and outside.......correct???? munchkin4 Posted January 19, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted January 19, 2016 Absolutely and you should. Much quicker. We have always used them but never done self assist. We drive to the port so we are in one of the last groups to get off. But the drive is long (9 hours) so we'd like to get on the road. Thinking self assist might be quicker. Thanks for your help! lifes-a-beach Posted January 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2016 Our last cruise out of Galveston we were with a minister and his wife. They wanted to make the 10 am service in Conroe. They were on the road by something like 730 and got to the service by 945. They went to guest services to plead their case for early departure but really didn't have to. They were told when the first walk off group could leave and that was it. That was on the Magic.
zdcatc12 Posted January 20, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2016 Absolutely and you should. Much quicker. Why should you if you only have a couple of bags. We did self-assist last month and were out in five minutes without one. Chances are if you only brought enough luggage that you can do self-assist, you shouldn't need a porter. Self assist ( which means with bags) is also first off conceptually . Baggage handlers would not be needed for you are first off and with little or no lines . Main thing is provide for your first off , self assist proceedures at front desk Edited January 20, 2016 by ssb
munchkin4 Posted January 20, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted January 20, 2016 All of the lines I have seen in Galveston are very long. By the time we usually get off, that warehouse is a nightmare! Even though we usually only have 1-2 bags for each of us, we always use a porter because they by-pass those lines and get you right through Customs. If we can just walk off and right through customs then we won't need a porter.

If you arrange and have priority with self assist bags and you position yourself early in time and first in line while you are in proper staging area on ship , You will be first in line for immigration and the curb ! All up to you!😀
