GPS Recommendations? Also kids club and cruise escort at dinner to kids club?

My son is highly spirited and has sensory sensitivities (auditory defensiveness and overstimulated easily with lots of noise and commotion).

 

I'm curious if anyone can recommend a child GPS device. I've never lost track of him but it's a fear, naturally, especially away from home, on the water, potentially with other supervision. He is 5. I'm a bit unsure of him being in kid club or being escorted by anyone other than us. The cruise line has a service where they serve the children first at dinner and take them to the kids club so the adults can leisurely eat.

I wouldn't sign my child up for the "escort to dinner" thing if he has those issues....I would only use the kid's club when he'll be IN the club...not going here and there. You can always feed him first...take him to the club, and go eat on your own.

That's likely what we'd do, or just keep him with us. Just wanted feedback of others experiences that have used the service. My family time dining is what rccl calls it. He's not a "runaway" kiddo, just very busy! Curious to know if they escort individual or group, how many adults per child, distance, indoor corridors, etc.

Does the RCCL kids club issue "smart" wrist bands? I know that DCL has wrist bands with RFID built in. Not sure if this is just for scanning in and out of if it can also be used to track a lost child on the ship. Might be worth asking about before you invest in one of your own.

I wasn't impressed with My Family Time dining when I tried it years ago. It required that I watch the time while I ate my appetizers, run out to the outside of the dining room, trying not to bump into waiters who were carrying 10 entrees on their arms and aren't expecting people to be up and walking around, wait for the kids club staff, hand off the kiddo, then make my way back to my table where my entree had been sitting for 5-10 minutes and my tablemates who had finished their dinner.

 

I found it a far better solution to make the kiddo wait an extra 15 minutes, while I finished my entree, take him up to the kids club myself, and come back to eat dessert.

 

At the time we did it, it was one staff person to however many kids showed up outside the dining room.

We always timed it so that the kids were done with dinner by 7 - we ate at the fixed 6 pm seating. One parent would have figured out what he/she wanted for dessert and the other took them to camp while the remaining parent ordered coffee and dessert. Then we could have a leisurely time after meal and until camp pick up at 10. Worked like a charm.
