Can someone explain how the upsell works? This is my 7th cruise and have never heard about it. We leave Feb 28 on the breakaway we have a oceanview room with the alcohol packaged I noticed the balcony rooms are the same price as the ocean view no free offer of course, normally I would call the normal number to see what they could do for me.. If I call the upsell number do I still get go keep my promo? I am so confused

What I have done in the past is to call my travel agent (or your personal cruise consultant if you bought directly from NCL). Tell them that you noticed the price drop and ask if there is "anything they can do for you". Wait on hold as long as it takes, and see what they offer.

It could be nothing; they don't owe you anything but they'll often offer you an upgrade of some kind. Before you accept, ask about whether or not you'll keep your alcohol package. There's no way of knowing whether or not they'll offer you anything, or whether or not they'll let you keep the perks.

If you do decide to take a deal that means you lose your drinks package, make sure they refund you the 18% gratuity you paid -- or at least credit it as onboard credit. You'll be able to use it to pay the daily service charge because, as a refund, it's not restricted like some other OBC.

I just took a quick look at your cruise on the NCL site and see the "Free at Sea" (drink pkg) and a $100 casino credit is being offered.

You can do as Valen9 suggested. Perhaps you will end up better off and it doesn't hurt to try!!

If you call the actual UPSELL number, they will have a list of upsells available for your specific cruise. Most of the time these are Haven category upsells. They are awesome deals, but still pricey. And FYI, when I called for our upcoming sailing, none of the Haven upsells I was offered included the current "Free at Sea" promos. But others have reported being able to keep existing promos from their original booking.

Upsell department is a clearing house for unsold rooms at a discounted from retail price. It is a different number than when you call your pcc. If you are lucky you get an email about two weeks out (sometimes earlier for suites) or you can test the waters and call. Usually you keep the promos you booked with even if better or worse are now offered.

Upgrades are done through your pcc and are a paid difference between cabin current retail prices. If prices have dropped it may be a small or no difference. Alternatly you may stay in your cabin an get 25% of price drop as obc if they feel generous. You may or may not lose your booking promos depending on if you are before final payment and other factors. Edited by Boschmann

Many people on our a Gem cruise called the Upsell number. They went from inside to balcony or mini suites. They did not have to go thru their travel agent. Some paid very little. Some were offered suites. They all got to keep their promos. You have nothing to lose by calling.

Just call the regular 800 number and ask if you can switch to a balcony and keep your promotion. The worst that they say is no.

There is a special number for Upsells. People who called the regular number were offered upgrades but were told they would lose their promos since they were changing their reservation. This did not happen with those that called the Upsell number. Different departments.
