Upgrades on Escape Staterooms

So, Do people "really" ever get upgraded to suites from other staterooms. I've been told by NCL customer service that if you get on ship and ask about being upgraded to a larger room, if they have it available, they will possibly do it. (sometimes with a charge upgrade, but nothing like it would have normally cost)

Has this every happened to anyone?

We have sailed the Escape twice, both times in balconies, and prior to each cruise, have never received an upgrade offer. (We've actually never received an upgrade offer for any sailing.) When we've boarded the ship, I seem to recall seeing a sign at guest services that there were no upgrades available as our sailings were full. My understanding is the upgrades at the pier and on the ship are very, very rare these days.

However, two weeks before you sail, you could try to call the upsell department and upsell yourself to a different cabin. They may offer you a smaller price to upgrade at that point. For our sailing a couple weeks ago, one person on the roll call reported they were able to upsell, but others reported not being able to. Since the Escape is new, I suspect many sailings are full and upgrades may not be as likely, but upsells may be possible.

Hope that helps!

Thank you! That does help. I was kind of thinking that is how it happens...few and far between.

Leaving on the Escape (Feb 13) and got an upgrade email on Feb 8. Saw it on Feb 9th, called in to get it, and someone beat me to it. It was for a mini-suite to Haven Balcony for $750 per person. There was one cabin left which I also saw online the weekend earlier. Apparently, the upsell offer goes out to many and its first come first serve!

I have a friend on the Escape this week who called the upsell line (800-625-4309) 2 weeks ago and went from an inside to a mini suite for $150 p/p. It does happen if there are rooms available within 2 weeks. It never hurts to call and you DO NOT need to go through your TA.

I used to call and upgrade after final booking with my PCC but it seems they've changed the rules and we pay the cancellation now to do that? Right now they're offering the choice promo for Escape sailings within the 30 days but my PCC still won't do it. We sail Feb 27th and are 15 days out today. No luck with the up sell dept today, but I'll try again Monday!

If you're trying to get the choice promo added and you're 15 days out, I believe your PCC is right in not being able to add it, because the choice promo is for new bookings only. What you'd be doing is considered canceling and rebooking to get the promos, thus the penalty fees.

You may be able to upsell to a different room, but I don't think (and someone will correct me if I am wrong) they will apply the choice promo when you upsell either.

I already have the pick 2 promo - UBP and SDP. I wouldn't mind losing one of these in n upgrade, but won't upgrade if it means losing my UBP. In the old days, when you upgraded you just kept whatever promo you had at the time of booking if you were after final payment and didn't pay any cancellation fees. I just want to go from inside to balcony. And keep my UBP.

I think, from what I've read, is that the PCC is not in the upsell department and doesn't have access to the upsell deals. You have to call that number, which for everyone's reference is 800-625-4309, and ask what they have to offer. When I did it in January, it was confirmed that would keep whatever perks and OBC were on my reservation before upgrading (in my case from Studio to Balcony for $100).

Also, the first time I called, they only offered Haven. Two days later I called and was offered only Minisuite and Balcony.

So be persistent.

If an operator doesn't tell you what you want to hear, thank them. Hang up. And connect to someone else!

(And I'm not sure this applies to anyone outside USA.)

Has anyone ever attempted an upsell / upgrade on complimentary Casino Guest cruise? For all correspondences (any changes to an existing or questions) I've had previously regarding comp'ed cruises they always transfer me to the Casino Guest line so I wasn't sure if the Upsell number would even talk me to?

I just did an upsell this week on a comped cruise. All they asked for was my reservation #.

I received a free casino cruise (free doesn't really mean free by the way, but I'll take it!), and I called to get upgraded. The fee was reasonable for the upgrade from an inside to a balcony. The only thing they don't upgrade for example is if you have a free inside cabin with let's say 1 free promotion like the drink package, and then you see that NCL is offering 2 free offers after you have booked your trip, you can't get the 2 free offers, only the 1 free when you originally booked your trip. That is my experience.

One thing that was really nice is I am celebrating a few things on the cruise, and if you let them know about any particular thing like "a new job", "graduation celebration", "anniversary" or "birthday", they often throw in a some items like a cake to your room or something else that has a nice little touch. Make sure to make friends with the person on the other end of the phone.... it does help.

I am sailing on Escape 8/20. When can I start calling the upsell desk and what is usually, based on previous experience; is the BEST time to call the upsell desk? Thanks for any advice :)

I think it's really a hit or miss situation. Most posts say 2 weeks out but I called at 32 days out. The price may go down closer to sailing but the inventory might also. I called on a Wednesday at around 10:00 am. EST. I got through to someone in less than 2 minutes. Good luck!

I hope you enjoyed your cruise last Feb. I was reading posts on upgrades and upsells and came across your post. I was wondering if you were successful upgrading or getting an upsell? Thanks

You can call any time. While some people say that the closer to the cruise date you get the better the fee gets, I have always made it a point to just call and get purchase the upgrade right away... let's you pick your cabin when there are more to choose from rather than get a nice room, save $100, and have a restaurant above you, or be next to the elevator... Get the upgrade now and get a better location... that's my opinion, but it has been great for me.

Hi! We had a great time. We did actually end up upgrading to a balcony at 12 days out by calling the up sell number.

Thank you! I am glad to hear SUCCESS with this upgrade/upsell ordeal lol. We are sailing May 7th on Escape and hoping to get an upgrade from inside to balcony. I will then try to call Upsell department maybe closest to the sail date. I don't mind being inside since we normally get to our cabin during wee hours in the morning and then we like to gallivant and do excursions anyways, but balcony will be a bonus!

Thanks again for your time!

It would be great if people just posted what they paid for the upgrades so other can see the rates... does it matter if you got the BEST deal? Likely not, but it would be nice if people had a ball park idea of how much the upgrade would be. I went from an inside to a balcony and paid approximate $330 per person. VERY happy with this deal.
