Pigeon Island

We took a private tour for the day with James tours and snorkelled at Pigeon Island. Not great snorkelling but water was nice. He took us lots of place for the day plus a great lunch in a local restaurant. If you have not been to this island before I would take the time to go to the south part of the island to see the spectacular Pitons and others sights in the area. Worth the long drive.

James was watching our time and pick up was at the port on time as he said.

Can I ask what tour you did with James that included Pigeon Island, along with snorkeling time there - and the Pitons, and sights south. I was unaware he offered a combo tour with both directions, given the distances and time need to travel to both.... Thanks.

Question for reed princess. We were looking for a land 3-4 hour tour by one of the tour companies. First of all is this even possible from Castries where our ship will dock. We are not interested in the Diamond waterfalls and Mud bath but more so in Soufriere and to see the pitons. What are the sights you would recommend? Do you know if tour companies like cosol, James etc would be a better bet to just a taxi or private van. We are a group of 6 so I believe Cosol tours are not private but for a group. If private, then does the cost go up quite a bit? If you have any suggestions on places to see and if this time frame works or do we need more time?

Thanks,

You're likely best off with a taxi from the port. Serenity TVL offers a shorter tour (no beach time) and the others will customize at will, check Frank's, Real St Lucia Tours, Island Man Tours, etc..

Keep in mind that with no stops at all, it's one hour from Port to Soufriere. That's with no stops and no traffic (unlikely in a port day), so 2 hours minimum round trip ; with any sightseeing stops at all, plus tour traffic - Marigot, bananas, view points, La Plac Cassav, etc you're looking at 1.5-2 hours just to get to Soufriere, with 1-1.5 to return. That's tour 3-4 hours right there. That doesn't leave time for lunch, beach, or lingering... Food for thought.

Sight stops include Morne Fortune, Governor General's house, Marigot, banana, La Plac Cassav, Soufriere viewpoints for Pitons, Soufriere waterfront, lunch by La Haut or Beacon or Petit Peaks (at least an hour), etc.. Any taxi can organize for you, approx $200us for the tour..or any operator can put it together.. There is no beach time, especially not an hour or so, on a 3-4 hour tour...the sheer drive time precludes it..

  • 1 month later...

We love Pigeon Island, been about 5 times. The captains Cellar was closed in December. The other bar is very quaint with some weird wood furniture on outside terrace. Wandering around the ruins is interesting and their are plaques on each building giving info'. Love the small beach too, if going independently for a couple of dollars extra on entrance fee you can have a lounger on the beach.

Climb to the top for great views.
