need help from anyone familiar with melbourne australia

We are leaving in a week for a cruise from Sydney but will be staying two nights in Melbourne prior. My question is about transportation, are taxis readily available from the airport or would it be best to hire a private car to take us to the hotel Hilton South Wharf?

We used Omni Car there and in Sydney. Both times our driver texted as we landed and the service was flawless.

Taxis are readily available. As an alternative we were there last month and used the skybus. It takes you straight from the airport to Southern Cross Station in the Centre. From there they do free drop offs at lots of the hotels. You can prebook or buy the tickets at the airport.

Good Choice we use Omni Car in Sydney all the time for transfers etc. not expensive and good vehicles.:)

Just tell them to send me my commission...LOL. They really are very good and we really liked them being there waiting for us, especially in Melbourne when we had been flying for way too many hours.. LAS to SFO to AKL to MEL.

Taxis are definitely readily available. There is a steady stream of taxis 24/7. They also have security guards that organise how many taxis come up based on the number of people waiting. Generally it's pretty well organised and you don't wait too long
