Which is better: Verandah or Upper balcony room?

Recommended Posts

Hi all - A little last minute vacation planning going on here! :)

I will be aboard the Glory next month, and my beloved Empress deck balconies are all sold out! The only balconies available (at no additional cost) are on the Verandah (mostly the mid-ship towards the aft) and Upper (scattered around) decks. My concerns of course are the noise from above on the Verandah desk and the noise from below on the Upper deck. How would this affect us during different times of day? Will a pair of earplugs solve any problem? Is it worthwhile to call Carnival to see what other rooms are available on these decks other than what is listed on the website?

Would love to hear any recommendations for room locations generally if anyone has been on these decks on the Glory or a sister ship. Right now I am leaning towards the Verandah deck towards the back of the buffet area (not under the after pool deck), since I believe it is carpeted and hopefully not too much traffic going through there.

Many thanks! :D

As long as their are cabins above and below you should be fine.

There won't be on either of those decks. Empress is sold out.

I would probably stick with Upper as long as it's not above the disco or casino. I wouldn't want to risk hearing chairs being dragged at all hours above my head on Veranda.

But I would need to see exactly which rooms are available to make a final determination.

Great thoughts firemanbobswife... thoughts on not being directly under the pool area? Is it a safer bet under the buffet/restaurant towards the aft area? Less likely maybe to hear noise since its carpeted/less frequented?

Upper:

Not loading at the moment.

Verandah:

8372

8384

8388

8396

8401

8408

8412

8417

8421

Buffet is a big no no. Carts rolling on tile floors constantly. I'll look these up in a minute and see what I think.

Actually since you'll be in a balcony, you probably won't get any of the tile noise since you would be under the carpeted eating areas. The insides definitely have more of a chance of that.

I think I would pick 8408 based on those cabin numbers. It looks pretty safe. I can check it out better tonight or tomorrow when I can look it up on my deck plan features that overlap and see for sure.

Thanks firemanbobswife, extra thoughts are always appreciated! I think we are looking to book tonight and agree that the carpeted areas of the buffet aren't prime activity areas. :)

I think you will be safe there. Actually I would be inclined to get a cabin there if I booked balconies and couldn't get Empress deck.

I have had cabins under the MDR which is also carpeted and never heard a thing.

Happy booking! When are you cruising?

We had a nightmare experience in a Jr Suite on a RCCL cruise. We were under the Solarium which should have been a safe bet since it closed at 10pm ... BUT ... all night long carts rolled over the tile floors above from a service elevator behind the area. We were awakened all night long for the first 3 nights. It took a lot of fussing to get it to stop. (Frankly, I figure they moved the cart path to the other side of the ship but I didn't care as long as I could sleep.... finally):D

My point is, I would risk noise from below as opposed to what we experienced coming from above.

Summersigh, that does sound like a nightmare! Hopefully since we are in a carpeted area for seating we wont have the same issues!

Firemanbobswife, I will be cruising next month! This is a change for me, I'm used to booking over a year out!
