c-cruise Posted May 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Went to downtown Seattle today and took some pics of the various ships in town (Diamond Princess, Oosterdam, Veendam). It was a rainy and overcast afternoon, certainly not ideal for photos, but you will get the general idea. Diamond Princess and Oosterdam are docked at terminal 30 and the Veendam is in dry dock at Todd Shipyard. I noticed the webcam on the Diamond was not opperational today so I thought I would post these for those of you heading to Seattle this summer. MNYTRPS2GO2 Posted May 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Thanks for sharing. We are sailing on the Sapphire the week before you. Seeing the ships in port makes me realize how close we are to sailing. Since you live in Seatle maybe you know the answer to my question. We have tickets to see the Mariners on 6/27. We plan on taking a cab from the Sheraton to the ballpark but have no idea of how we'll return!! Do you know if there is any public transportation from the ballpark to downtown? TIA
srphnx Posted May 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Thanks! We will be seeing Diamond in all her splendor on May 22nd, and for the second time. We sailed her 2 weeks ago can't wait to get home. c-cruise Posted May 9, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Glad you like the pictures. To answer your question about the June 27th Mariners game, you should have no trouble finding a cab back to the Sheraton after the game. It is an afternoon game 1:05 start so it should end around 4:00-4:30. You could also investigate taking a Metro bus back to the Sheraton. They have many special routes for Mariner games. Below is a link to the Metro Mariners page. Metro Mariner's bus routes Hope this helps. marlinmike Posted May 9, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2004 MNYTRPS2GO2, Go to the Northwest corner of the ballbark, across the street from the Left Field entrance to Safeco Field, at the corner of Royal Brougham Way and Occidental Ave S. This is where the cabs line up for fares. You'll have to be sure to go up to the 300 level at Safeco and you'll see the new Sapphire Princess docked a few blocks from the field, loading up for it's Alaska cruise. MNYTRPS2GO2 Posted May 9, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 9, 2004 C-CRUISE and MARLINMIKE Thank you both for your information. It will be put to very good use. We are so use to having access to a car everywhere we go we never gave transportation to the park any thought. Since we will be getting off the Sapphire that morning and will be spending the day at the ballgame we decided not to rent a car this time. rowbob50 Posted May 10, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 10, 2004 C-Cruise, Great pics but I have a question of the picture (#44894) of the balconies. Where were you when you took this picture, Are you in an aft balcony cabin. What cabin are you in or are you on a deck just looking over. I will be in an aft balcony cabin on the Aloha deck #A744 & A746, were you close to these Thanks Roy
dorotha Posted May 10, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Thanks for the photos. We'll be on the Sapphire with you on the 27th. I have 2 questions for you, if you would be so kind... 1) you mentioned a Mariners game at 1:05. Will the traffic be terrible trying to get to the dock? We plan on spending the night before down on the Columbia River & then drive to Seattle on the 27th, but I'm not sure that leaves enough time. 2) From where did you take the photo looking down on the balconies? We're on Aloha deck & I'm not sure I'd want anyone from the Lido pool dropping ice cream on my head! I thought the Aloha balconies were totally covered. c-cruise Posted May 10, 2004 Author #15 Share Posted May 10, 2004 dortha, The shot looking down on the balconies is a shot of the Oosterdam not the Diamond Princess. So no need to worry about the falling ice cream The traffic is always bad in Seattle, the Mariners game will just add that much more to it. Safeco Field is very close to Terminal 30, so yes I would expect some congestion starting a couple of hours before game time.
