Cruisermom2nick Posted June 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Check out my review! Planning a trip that includes Progreso? http://thecheerfulcruiser.blogspot.com/2016/06/pleasant-progreso-mexico-mayan-ruins.html
riffatsea Posted June 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2016 Thanks for writing! You did not mention mosquitos in your review. That was a giant problem for us on our last Mayan ruin visit in Cozumel so how was it for you??
Cruisermom2nick Posted June 26, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted June 26, 2016 Riffatsea- This was December and I am told the mosquito problem is prominent in August and September. Is that when you traveled? :)
maldenmusic Posted June 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2016 Do you recall if the cenote was open to the public? I know you might not have used it in December but we will be there next week.
12reca Posted August 28, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2016 Chichen Itza is well worth visiting, more impressive than Tulum from Cozumel (includes ferry boat ride). Also Uxmal seems to be a major highlight...
WomanWillSail Posted September 3, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Keep in mind that on the Chichen Itza tour from Progreso, there is a 2 hour ride on a bus from Progreso to Chichen Itza. You will have an hour or two at the ruins, and that's it. Back on the bus for 2 hours to Progreso. No stops, no time. Uxmal is a FAR better bet, a little closer and a lot of potential stops along the way if you are not on a big bus tour.
ABQrobin Posted September 3, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2016 WE just got back from the Liberty, did Uxmal excursion thru Carnival. WOW.... we love love loved it. I shot video and DH shot photos. I should have some posted later this weekend. We have been to Chichen Itza before, it is very spread out, and very very crowded. I wouldn't do it again unless I was spending the night at a local hotel (this is what we did a few years ago, not on a cruise). Comparing Uxmal and Chichen Itza... both are huge, both are impressive, both are worthwhile. Uxmal was 1.75 hours by bus each way but the tour guides talk the whole way there, giving history, so it did not seem that long. Uxmal is less touristy and less people. If you hate crowds, go there! like I said... I will have a video posted sometime this weekend!
