Our trip on the victory.

We are now home from our first cruise. We were on the carnival victory and I have to say we are now hooked.

I know some people have a bad opinion of the victory, and this was our first cruise so have nothing to compare it to, but we loved it. We had balcony cabin 7345. For those wondering it did have the updated bathroom, the carpet looked newer too. It did have the old style tv but the tv worked fine. We found the cabin spacious for the 2 of us and it had lots of storage. It was also very quiet and we were right near the mid ship elevators so we were close to everything. We just had to go up 2 decks to the pool and buffet or down 2 to the casino and shops. I would say it was the perfect location.

We also had a great cabin Stewart. He was so nice. And one night we returned to find happy birthday written on our mirror and a coupon for a free picture and $25 off bottle of wine and $50 spa credit. I just had a birthday about a week before we left but didn't note that on our reservation. So it was a cool surprise.

We paid for FTTF so we got right on the ship when we arrived at the port around 12:30 and got right to our room. It was nice to skip the long lines at the port, and to drop off our carry on and relax for a bit on our balcony. We were on the boat within 20 minutes of arriving at the port. As soon as the other rooms opened up just after 1:30 we headed to the buffet and grabbed some lunch as other cleared out to go their cabins. It was also nice skipping the long lines at guest services and getting off the ship early.

We ate dinner in the main dining room 3 times and dinner at the buffet once. All meals were great. We had any time dining and never had to wait for a table. I do have to say though some people have no sense of class with what they wore in the dining room. Now we didn't dress up, I just threw on a simple sundress and my husband wore nice shorts and golf shirts (except on elegant night). But there were people in ripped jean shorts, tank tops, flip flops, stained t shirts etc. Luckily these people were in the minority. But still come on people it takes such little effort to throw on some clean and decent clothes. But these people were good for a laugh during our dinner.

The one thing we remember most is just how nice all the crew were. They were so friendly and attentive. My biggest suggestion to people is to take the time and talk to the crew. The cruise director Ryan was hilarious and we enjoyed doing something different each night. Oh and all the bartenders were very generous with the booze. Lol

We did excursions in Freeport and Nassau and again the best part was the local people we met. They were all so nice. When they found out we were Canadian they would often tell us about relatives or friends they had in Canada and we would get into great conversations. We had the sweetest tour guide at Atlantis while we were walking she would turn off her mike and her and my husband and I would joke and have great conversations. It was the best.

That's my summary for now! Off to unpack.

I hope you have fun. We sure did. Now I will say this there is a party vibe on board but I didn't see one person being obnoxious, everyone was just having fun. It can get loud in the evening but there are also plenty of quiet areas to be found as well.

I do have to say I'm glad we had the cabin we did. We had cabins below and above so no noise there. And we were far enough from the atrium elevators so we didn't get that noise either. The atrium area can get loud in the evening so cabins right near those elevators could be loud (we were right near the midship elevators).

No I didn't. Sorry ☹️. I actually didn't take many pictures on the ship. I made an effort to just put my phone away except when I was checking on the kids.

Thanks for your review of the Victory. I am glad you enjoyed your cruise. I was on the Victory last year for a 5 day cruise, and loved the ship, and as you report, the crew was outstanding. I would happily sail on that ship again:)

Congrats on your first cruise! It is addictive, isn't it. Now start planning #2 and #3!

One item to mention: The person who services your cabin is known as a "steward". Today it usually means either male or female, but there was a time when we had a male steward and a female stewardess.

Okay, onward to your next cruise adventure! :)

Great review!

Sadly this will get shuffled to the bottom in short order while the tablecloth/smoking/dress code and negative threads just stay at the top of the list.

Welcome to cruising... let us know if you need an intervention. Of course we won't arrange it, we'll just further enable you!

Thanks for the review. Always looking for opinions on the Victory. Sail o her in October and can't wait. Have been on the Destiny and Ecstacy, last year, the reviews for Ecstacy were not that favorable, found her to be a great ship, and that is the mindset I am going on the Victory with. It is vacation and I don't have to do a darn thing except have fun!!!!!!!

My husband and I booked for August 21st and really looking forward to seeing this ship. We have sailed Carnival many times before and anxious to see what the Victory has to offer. We're:) booked in an Ocean Suite and told by Carnival that the suites have all been completely updated. Can hardly wait to see it. Glad you enjoyed your cruise:)

Sounds like a great first cruise! So glad you had a great time.

I agree that taking time to speak to the crew and interact with locals in port adds so much to the cruise experience. Part of why we travel is to increase our world view and see things through the eyes of people different form ourselves.

  • 2 weeks later...

don't worry about those "worst ever" posts, and just disregard them. Those posts/reviews amount to a hill of beans, since they seldom ever state why it was the worst ever.

I did a 5 day cruise on Victory last year, October, loved the ship, the ports of call, and as always, the staff were so warm and kind, could not do enough to help you, make your cruise extra special.

I am due to sail on the Splendor soon, and see a lot of reviews who cite the pepto bismol pink, and donuts décor. Will it affect me?, well probably only in a good way since I love pink, and like donuts LOL!

Enjoy the Victory, I found her to be a very nice ship, and the staff and service were tops.:)

We sail on Sept 8th and can't wait. I never pay any attention to those who give any cruise a bad review most of those people probably don't even have a life and that's all they do go on cruises to give them bad reviews. I go and read the CDC inspection report that is done every six months by the health department on every cruise ship. The Victory was inspected in April and got a 100%. Yes it's an older ship, but as long as it's well maintained who cares how old it is.
