4x4bob Posted August 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2016 After looking at La Paz with Google Earth, my question is: Just what is there to do during visit? Or, would this be a good port day to find a lounge chair in the shade and read my kindle? Thanks Bob
Rosefloater Posted August 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2016 We have gone to the Cathedral and gone across the plaza to a small museum with rotating exhibits. Then walked 4 or 5 blocks to the Mercado Francisco Madero for really good Mexican food. The mercado is next to the city bus station (not the one you are dropped of at across from the malecon). Very little english is spoken and we are usually the only non Mexicans there. From there, we walk back to the malecon where we get an ice cream from a ice cream shop that is painted blue (look for the polka dot painted tree across from the Muelle fiscal). Sis got corn ice cream. She liked it. As you can tell, we look for places to eat. :D From the malecon it is hilly up to the Cathedral, then flattens out. Depending on the time of year, you can swim with the Whale Sharks. It is about a 1/2 ride from the port to the city.
SadieN Posted August 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2016 La Paz is the Capital of Baja California Sur. A real Mexican city, not redone for American tourists. We've done several tours- the overview tour that goes to the ceramics and weavers. We've swam with whale sharks and we've just walked around town. At port there will be a decent craft fair set up. Several food stalls. The shuttle into town is about a 20 minute drive. Sit on the right going and the left coming back. At times we've seen whales from the bus. riffatsea Posted August 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2016 My husband really enjoyed walking around this lovely real Mexican city while I took a fun kayak tour. We both enjoyed ourselves and I'd definitely enjoy going back there!

SelectSys Posted August 27, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 27, 2016 We are going to LaPaz end of March. Never been. What is the malecon? Thanks. It is the name for the street/walk directly by the water. It is a generic term. Almost all beach/port towns and cities have a malecon.
