Hydrokitty Posted September 14, 2016 #26 Share Posted September 14, 2016 We're on that cruise as well. Looking for the "must sees" in Quebec. We did a 1-week NE and Canada cruise about 5 years ago, but this will be our first visit to Quebec. Any advice would be appreciated. We may just do the hop on/hop off bus. I emailed Celebrity 2 days ago RE formal nights and attire. Have yet to receive a reply. SteelCityLady: There are no more "formal" nights. There's casual dining and on sea days "smart" casual....which for most means black slacks and dressy top for ladies....sports slacks and button shirts (no jacket no tie) for gents. kathynorth Posted September 14, 2016 #27 Share Posted September 14, 2016 Wife and I are on the Oct. 2 voyage same questions. Are the colors changing for those on board now? If you cruise is starting on the 2nd you have a great shot at being on target for peak foliage.
ccotting Posted September 14, 2016 #28 Share Posted September 14, 2016 I live in Halifax and there haven't been any colors changing. They usually change towards the end of September. Lived there for 16 years. Best colours around Canadian Thanksgiving which is about October 10th this year. First 2 weeks in October generally good. That said, most sunny days in Halifax, always September!
Baron Barracuda Posted September 14, 2016 #29 Share Posted September 14, 2016 En route to Sydney after spending two perfect days in Quebec. Sunny skies and temps in the mid 70's. Have to plug the private walking tour dw took with Nomad Tours (nomadtoursquebec.com). It lasted 4 hours and was only C$23 (plus c$15 for entrance to the observatory and c$2.50 for the funicular). Learned of it through our cc roll call. It's small groups, there were only 7 in hers, and Marie the guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Friends on the other hand had a horrible time with X's wine and cheese excursion. Tour promised services of knowledgeable maitre 'd and sommelier who would guide them through town and then explain the wine and cheese pairings. Instead they were just escorted to the restaurant and given 3 glasses of wine and some cheese with no explanation. No sign of maitre 'd or sommelier. They're currently fighting for a refund. Today dw and I spent several hours wandering the quaint streets past working artists and many cafe's. Will definitely come again.

I have trouble walking long periods of time...was that 4 hours of walking or were there rest stops every 30 minutes or so? I would not want to join a group of healthy walkers and not only spoil their tour but have a miserable time myself!
Baron Barracuda Posted September 15, 2016 #32 Share Posted September 15, 2016 DW's group did a lot of walking, however they were all pretty fit. Marie seemed very flexible though, so if you contact her directly she would probably adjust the tour to the needs of the group. They actually walked for 3 1/2 hours and spent the last 1/2 hour in the observatory.

Thanks BB....I appreciate the description...I think I'll keep the one to Montmorency Falls and go for a stroll with DH in the old city. That way I set the pace and we get to see everything we want to it just takes longer. :D
cruselover10624 Posted September 16, 2016 #34 Share Posted September 16, 2016 We have been on this cruise (minus PEI and Quebec) twice before. Hoping for fall colors as well. Two years ago, more colors in MD than Maine... but the weather has been odd this year. Definitely looking forward to Quebec!

Hydrokitty Posted September 17, 2016 #36 Share Posted September 17, 2016 In Sydney yesterday and Halifax today weather sunny in 60's. No sign of leaves turning. Is it sunny enough to enjoy the balcony?
Baron Barracuda Posted September 17, 2016 #37 Share Posted September 17, 2016 Depends on the wind. Wore jeans for first time in Sydney. Back in shorts in Halifax. DW wore jeans both days. She also started our walks in windbreaker but soon removed it. Had breakfast on balcony today on last sea day. Very pleasant.

cocobakerchica Posted September 21, 2016 #41 Share Posted September 21, 2016 I'll be taking this cruise this time next year, and have been following this thread with a lot of interest, I hope more suggestions come in, this has been very helpful in looking up things to do in the ports. Anyone have any recent tips about things to do in Saguenay and/or Sydney? I've also been looking at the boards about those ports too. Much thanks to everyone who has responded already, this is great.
