Just Bit the Upsell Bullet! DOS!!

I'm doing a little dance right now, called for the Upsell and could not say no to the price. We were in an H5-first time in the Haven (and NCL for that matter). Any tips about the DOS on the Breakaway...we are in 16702.

Congratulations. We stayed in that room. Also, lots of mis-information and confusion posted once again.

Unless NCL changes something, you get 3 bottles of booze from a limited list which has been posted on CC recently. You will get unlimited in room bottled water and soda. Mini-bar items excluded like small bottles of booze or snacks if in fridge.

Is it just 2 of you? There is a door that separates closet/bathroom from entryway/living room. Only a curtain between bedroom and bathroom. TVs in living room and bedroom. Large dining table with 6 chairs.

Room leaks noise to OS next door in the corner behind the white chair. It can be as bad as sitting in living room and not being able to hear tv at normal volume levels.

The roughest seas we had were 12' which had a bit of movement but not bad. Otherwise, very quiet up there and no noise from above.

In regards to the upsell, when I called a few weeks ago they told me there were no upsells at that time. I said wait a minute, I'm in the Haven (H5) and I want the DOS. The rep corrected herself and said oh yes, let me see what we can do. Then they gave me the DOS or H4 pricing.

You do get unlimited water and soda in room, the rep specifically pointed out to me the additional perks I would get from changing from H5 to DOS. I believe she said three bottles of booze/champagne.

It's just the two of us, so we'll have plenty of room!!

Yes, the 3 bottles of booze plus one bottle of champagne. If you are Platinum you'll also get a fine bottle of sparkling wine valued around $3.00.

Also, I would assume that I can just stay put on my balcony for sail away...seems like it would be the perfect spot and plan to have drinks and snacks?

Yes that is a great spot. If you sit down most of the wind will go over your head so not a problem. It is a very large balcony and it wraps to the right side although they put in a PITA door that has to be opened to go to the side. The butler or steward will tell you to keep it closed at all times. It takes two hands to open/close it because it catches wind like a sail. They don't always bring the booze the first night but the champagne is usually there.

It is my understanding that upsells thru the Upsell department do NOT get the free booze. I just got off the phone and got an H5 on the Breakaway for Oct. 2nd sailing and she said we do not get any Suite Amenities other than access to Haven/Butler/Concierge/Priority Boarding/Priority Port alighting/Haven Restaurant for 3 meals.

Of course I could be wrong was too happy I got the H5, first time on Breakaway and not in an Aft Suite so I will let you know in 9 days.

As a Haven guest, you can have 3 meals a day in the Haven restaurant.

DOS gets 6 bottles of liquor and OS gets 3. Remaining haven rooms get the one bottle of champagne. OS and above gets the free mixers, remaining haven suites do not. I am right and know that I am because I have actually stayed in an OS on the getaway, and got the 3 free bottles and unlimited mixers and bottled water. I did not have the UBP because, like you, it was an upsell. This information is also right on the NCL website for the haven. You must have stayed in a room below OS level.

I think only the Garden Villa gets 6 and the DOS and OS get 3. I'm in the DOS on Epic on my own next month for the Transatlantic and will definitley be having a party to get through some of that booze. If they've upped it to 6 bottles, I'll have 2 :)

Congrats! I was in that exact suite last week on the 9/11-9/18 cruise! Just like you, I upsold from an H5 and it was worth every penny! You are going to love it! I can confirm that when you are sitting in the living room you can certainly hear the OS next to you, but it was never really that bad at all. Also, I know some people told me I might not be able to use the balcony when at sea because of the wind, but that was never an issue for us (maybe we just had really calm seas and good weather?).

From the moment we arrived at the terminal to the moment Patrick escorted us off the ship, we were treated so well. The whole team in the Haven is amazing. If they keep all the same assignments, then your room steward will be Cecilio (sp?) and your Butler will be Ramona, both were outstanding. When you see them, please tell them the Brians say hi (I miss them already).

One tip, it took me FOREVER to find the room safe! It turns out they prop the door between the master bathroom and guest bathroom. If you remove the door stop and look behind you will see a closet and the safe is in there.

Also, if you find yourself in the Haven Lounge some night, the head bartender is amazing. His name is Stefano and he fancies himself an old fashioned mixologist. If you tell him what you like he will mix something up delicious. During our week he actually used a smoker to infuse bourbon with some cigar leaves and made me a cigar old fashioned.

It's only been 6 days since we returned and I am already looking forward to our next visit to the Breakaway Haven. Have a great time!!

Grats on the H5! You are right, H5s do not get bottles of liquor, and if it was an upsell and not an upgrade, you do t get all the free at sea perks. However, you get all perks that come with the cabin you upsold to. For OS, DOS and GB, that includes the bottles of liquor. For H5, you will get a bottle of sparkling wine.

Good to re-read that :) So funny that 3 CC posters were in there one after the other and we were there when the door was installed.

If you were there between socrdad and us you could have at least gotten the wine cleaned up (j/k).

Did they give a reason for the door being added - I seem some mention but don't recall the details.

We too had Cecillo but a different, lackluster concierge. We've had Patrick on the Star and found him to be pretty good although others have different opinions.

And yes, I believe we talked about Romana - I'm glad she got a full time butler gig as she has lots of energy and great personality.

As mentioned above, the bottles are room specific as are suite amenities specific to room booked.

No, only that it was a part of the original plans with the builder. Not sure if it was a wind break or a support of sorts?

Congrats - we upsold from a FWD Haven suite to the DOS on BA in March. And we had been in an aft Haven suite on BA the year prior :-)

We were in 16102, which is port side - you will be starboard. It certainly is an opulent space, but we preferred the aft suite. Except for the location - we did like being located right in the Haven. The front balcony is pretty much not even usable when sailing, but it was an awesome place to hang out while in port. Others have mentioned some noise bleed from the OS that shares a (removable) wall with the DOS. We were fortunate and had a very quiet older couple there, and we didn't hear anything.

We got a choice of 3 bottles of liquor from a short list left by the butler. We asked the concierge if we could switch one of the bottles for something not on the list, and they did that for us. But we had UBP and didn't really need the extra bottles. We ended up bringing them home :-)

You will have a fabulous time - enjoy the Haven - I wouldn't book on one of the large ships unless I could do Haven. It's really special!

We will be sailing in a DOS on Escape in a couple of weeks. I just received an e-mail from NCL asking for our pre-cruise requests, among the selections were the three bottles of liquor.

There's been a lot of back and forth on the thread about this. So I'll share what I received today so you all can get a definitive perspective as of right now.

You can select three bottles of liquor from the list below. I do not know if you are able to go off-list.

Please choose 3 bottles from the list below

Beefeater GinGrant’s Blended Scotch Whiskey

Smirnoff Vodka

Jim Beam Bourbon

Seagram’s 7 Crown

Bacardi Superior Rum

Cazadores Blanco Tequila

Dry White Vermouth

Sweet Red Vermouth

Harvey’s Bristol Cream Sherry

Sandeman Reserve Port

Jameson Irish Whiskey

Kahlua

North & South by Norwegian, Sauvignon Blanc, California

North & South by Norwegian, Red Blend, California

*If the ship will be sailing from Texas, the bottles will be delivered the day after sailing due to Texas law.

Sodas

Pepsi

Diet Pepsi

Sierra Mist Soda

Orange Soda

Tonic Water

Ginger Ale

Club Soda

Note that there is nothing to indicate a limit on the sodas, as is the case with the bottles of liquor.

There are also selections for water, coffee and tea.

I asked for an updated wine list but was told that NCL does not publish the list because selections can change from one sailing to another.

I hope that this offers some clarity.

Enjoy the free liquor. The tequila isn't bad. We had a Sail away party in our DOS on the Jade and wiped out all 3 bottles in less than 2 hours. Invited 10 friends to our room and the butler made sure we were well taken care of.

We will be sailing in a DOS on Escape in a couple of weeks.

Could you give us some feedback on the sleeping arrangements of the 2nd bedroom? There have been conflicting reports and I'm thinking that there are different setups for specific DOS decks/rooms.

Pictures would be great.
