How does VOOM compare to internet on HAL?

We have cruised alot and like to be able to keep in touch with our families while on board. We've had all the frustrations with internet on the ships we've sailed on-- until our last cruise this past summer on Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas that had VOOM internet--it was fantastic! We were so happy with VOOM that we are reluctant to sail on another ship without it.

We are considering a cruise on HAL's new ship, the Konsingdam and we would like to know how the internet service compares to VOOM internet on RCI.?

Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

Note: I also asked this question on the HAL site but thought some RCI cruisers might also be able to compare the internet on both ships.

Good thing you have not experienced internet on a ship with O3B internet (Adventure didn't' have it) - everything else would be a big let down. BTW, every RCI ship has VOOM, but not all VOOM is the same.

Internet performance can be as subjective as food. To eliminate that subjectivity, you'd need to compare objective numbers. On RCI, with a SURF package you usually get up to .5 Mpbs (the higher the better) down speeds and ping rates of about 600 ms on most ships and 200 ms (lower is better) on ships with O3B internet. You'd have to find out what HAL ships offer in terms of those numbers.

If I were to guess, the newest HAL ships offer internet on par with non O3B internet VOOM.

We haven't decided yet on whether we do the internet on RC yet for our 7 day cruise. But did do it on Holland for an 11 day cruise. We thought the internet work well for my husband and I to check emails. It was slow and we did have to "share" it. We got the $150 unlimited. Don't remember what they called it. But work fine for our purposes. Which was to check business emails and any personal mails that came in. We didn't surf or post to Facebook an lot.

We couldn't log in at the same time, but we just got on and handle any emails and got off.
