WE will be arriving in London three days pre-cruise, sailing out of Southampton.

We will have two full days to tour London. The first day we'd like to to the HOHO. Can you just show up at the bus stop and pay? Cost? What area should we stay in so we are closer to Victoria Station to catch our transfer to Southhampton. WE have a reservation at Ibis Style London Kensington hotel, is that a good area? Victoria Station? Near a HOHO line? Any reviews on the hotel?

Are you catching a National Express coach, or the Cruise Line transfer? The cheapest and simplest option is a train from Waterloo and you can find a budget hotel near there if you look.

 

Note that hotels in London are comparatively expensive and rooms tend to be small. A budget hotel is likely to not have aircon.

We stayed at the Park Plaza Victoria in London and loved it! It was walking distance (1 block?) from Victoria Station where the Princess Cruise Line bus dropped us off after coming back from Southampton. We walked from the hotel to Westminster Abbey, parliament, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar! Took the HoHo bus which had a stop down the road from it too. Highly recommended!

You might like to consider Aster House South Kensington, B&B, which gets good reviews. You can catch the train there from Heathrow Airport, on arrival and take a taxi to Victoria on departure. it is a handy location walking distance to museums, Kensington Palace and Gardens,, Harrods, etc. It is a short bus ride to Sloane Square with my favourite department store, Peter Jones.

 

After many visits to London, I have found picking a location close to your interests is the key, as traffic in London makes travel painfully slow.

 

I have just returned from a month in London and travelled by bus via South Kensington daily and it is a happening place at all hours, so safe to walk around at night.

Just remember that a three star can get a five star review depending on the expectations of the reviewers. Hotels can also be sorted by neighborhood.
