jakkojakko Posted October 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Does anybody know, wether on board or having done the itinerary, why the Volendam is so far north in the Bearing sea? I know the last port was Dutch Harbour, but it seems they are off track for the next destination. As far as I know there is nothing interesting there except for the deadliest catch guys.

Heartgrove Posted October 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2016 (edited) There is a Gale Warning currently in place for the Bering Sea. Sea conditions may be dictating the course being taken. Edited October 7, 2016 by Heartgrove
jakkojakko Posted October 7, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted October 7, 2016 My point exactly, why not proceed south of the aleutians to avoid the storm.
jakkojakko Posted October 7, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Ah, found it. South of the Aleutians is even worse. They are holding in a pocket of relatively lower seas.
RuthC Posted October 7, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Makes sense. I remember when I took the Volendam eastbound from Japan toward Vancouver a while back, we went north of the Aleutians to get away from a storm in the north Pacific. Then we dropped down south between some islands in order to head toward Kodiak.
