Short Oasis Review (11/13-20/2016)

Recommended Posts

This was my fourth cruise and first time on Oasis. Wow! What a ship she is; I could go on and on about what is great about this ship. We had a Superior Oceanview Balcony (12540) which was Starboard side. The shipped docked in all three ports from Starboard so we loved sitting on the balcony watching them dock. Also, the Captain moves over into a wing when docking and being we were very near the front of the ship we could watch him as he worked on bringing the boat into port.

Embarkment was a breeze! We arrived at the port at 10:45 and we were on board by 11:30. Rooms were ready by 1:00. Debarkment was a bit of a cluster; long wait on the ramp going down to get luggage and then a very long line waiting to go through customs. Overall, it probably took an hour from start to finish.

We ordered room service every morning (coffee and pastry) and then headed up to sit in the hot tub (located just outside of the Solarium). Never crowded and we usually had it to ourselves (we are early risers so in the hot tub around 6:00AM).

We found the food to be very good. Sure, the dining room menu seemed to be a little limited compared to other cruises I've been on but what was served was very good. The pork chop was out of this world good and also the Steak Diane I had one evening was very good. We did not go to the 2nd formal night (lobster) so can't speak to it. We chose to do a late lunch that day at Johnny Rockets (after the Aqua Theater dive show and the Belly Flop contest). $6.95 includes your burger, soda and all you can eat fries and onion rings. I'm Gold on RCCL so had a BOGO offer on their shakes (normally $4.95 each) and they were delicious. We did lunch on the last sailing day at Park Cafe (roast beef sandwiches and made to order salads and paninis). Wish we would have found this sooner!! Roast beef sandwiches are excellent and love the salad options. We did WindJammer twice (one morning and one evening) and found the food to be good and there is certainly something for everyone. The 2nd formal evening we at in the WindJammer later and they were doing a made to order pasta bar which was very good.

There are so many activities on this ship that we never found ourselves bored. We played Bingo (no, we didn't win), watched the comedian on the final sailing night, and people watched. This particular sailing had a large number of "seniors" so many more scooters than one would normally find on a cruise ship. I think since it was it's first sailing out of Port Canaveral they might have advertised heavily to Florida residents and offered some crazy good specials. Wasn't really an issue other than when two scooters were trying to get in the elevator at the same time or when they would ride side-by-side through the Promenade.

There are numerous clubs/bars with music whether you like classical, show tunes, DJ, Top 40 - really, something for everyone. I can't speak to the shows on board as we didn't attend any. We usually were back in our cabin early and playing cards watching the world float by :-)

We booked our next cruise while on board - same ship, same week for 2017 with Western Caribbean itinerary (we were on an Eastern). Already looking forward to going back.
