We are sailing on the escape in February and I'm curious to hear opinions on having these vaccines. I'd prefer to not get them but I also don't want to get sick.

Personally I would not get them, and I do not believe that my physician would suggest them or even give them to me if I asked. Instead of asking on this board medical questions should be addressed to your physician.

Please, talk to your physician or health department.

Even just consult the CDC website for basic information.

Here's what you can learn about Hepatitis A vaccine from CDC (plus much more on their website and also info on Hep B vaccine, etc.)

As an adult, do I need this vaccine?

Vaccine is recommended for the following persons aged 1 year and older:

You live in a community with a high rate of hepatitis A.

You are a man and have sex with other men.

You use street drugs.

You work or travel to countries with high rates of hepatitis A.

You have long-term liver disease.

You receive blood products to help your blood clot.

You work with HAV-infected animals or work with HAV in research setting.

It is then up to you to determine the answers to those questions which may involve doing research about hepatitis in the countries in your itineraries (or again, asking your doctor or health department.)

Cruise Critic is an absolute wealth of mostly great information about cruising, but not the place to determine which vaccines you might need!

Happy cruising and good luck!
