I am taking the train from Cannes to monte carlo. When I get there.what is the highlight when I get there.what is a must see there.thank you

Check the website for a tour of the Prince's Palace. http://www.palais.mc/en/museum-and-visits/the-state-apartments-1-26.html

Also, stop by the Cathedral and walk the old town. The Oceanographic museum is excellent if you are interested. Then go to the Montecarlo side for a look at the Casino.

And get a guidebook of the area to give you an idea of what is interesting at each place. Then you can decide what is a must see for you.

I cannot help myself and have to ask the OP a simple question, "why do you want to take the train from Cannes to Monte Carlo?" If you have a specific thing you really want to see then it certainly makes sense. But otherwise, there are plenty of other options in the region that would be higher on our personal list then MC (we all have our biases). Besides simply walking through Cannes we tend to favor Nice (for a large city) and St Paul de Vence and Antibes for smaller places.

But if one's heart is set on MC we would suggest heading straight to the Palace to catch the Changing of the Guard and perhaps get the inside tour. From the train station you can get up to the Palace via the local bus or a taxi and perhaps later take the walk downhill.

Hank doesn't like Monte Carlo ;)

Methinks mebbe he lost a lot of money in the casino :D

But I'll agree with him about taking the bus up to the Palace - it's a pretty steep climb. Lots of other imposing buildings up there too, as well as a great view of the town.

There's a little road-train that takes you for a tour of the town. The only snag - if things haven't changed - is that it's not a ho-ho, it's a round-trip and it starts & finishes up by the Palace.

The casino is down in the town, not far from the harbour.

I've been to Monte Carlo a few times, usually by car, and always struggled to figure the street circuit. Last time was on a cruise ship (Villefranche then train, quick, cheap & easy) a week before the GP. So all the crash-barriers were up, pits were being readied etc. Easy to follow, so we walked the course. It's quite a short lap, didn't take us long but rather longer than Michael Schumacher's 1 min 14 secs.

JB, its not the Casino. But the first time I stopped in a Monte Carlo bar and they did not have any Guinness.....that forever turned me against the small kingdom. :). DW and I have often talked about whether it is that we simply do not like MC...or perhaps its that we really like so many other places (in that region) a lot more. But you are right in that we now see MC as a place to drive around (when on driving vacations) or quickly leave (if we are on a cruise that docks or tenders at that port). And since its relatively easy to walk from the port to the bus stop where we can grab an inexpensive bus (towards either Nice or Menton) or we can walk to any of several rental car offices....we are fine with that port :).
