We did B2B on the Spirit last Christmas and New Year. On the first 7 day cruise which was totally in the EU we didn’t pay any Spanish tax on drinks but on the 2nd 12 night cruise which did leave the EU (Casablanca) we did pay Spanish tax when in a Spanish port. Which didn’t make a great deal of sense . To be honest we had a drinks package and and the tax charge was minimal so didn’t really give it a second thought .

We came off the Spirit last Sunday. We were charged what was called Spanish VAT whenever we were in Spanish waters or a Spanish port.

If you had a free or included drinks package were you charged tax on each individual drink from that package? Or just for retail good bought eg perfumes, cigarettes etc

Glynandkath is talking about drinks from the beverage package.

From the various reports it seems that this is the current situation.

If you are doing an all EU cruise then VAT is charged on all purchases for the duration of the cruise, except on drinks that you get with the beverage package.

If the cruises leaves the EU (which is the case on the current Canary Islands cruises) then VAT is charged on purchases when in Spanish waters, and this does appear to include drinks from the beverage package.

Of course, these things can change at any time, so go prepared for anything. As with so many things on NCL, just because someone had something happen one way last week doesn’t mean it will be the same for you. You will only know for sure when you get onboard.
