When is your cruise?

We cruised last month and did miss dining in the MDR the first night

We have a custom of dining in the Steakhouse the first night, no matter what ship/cruiseline.

Sailaway was fun though since we dined at 6, we were able to enjoy the experience of sailaway from our aft balcony. I guess if there was anything we missed on our first night it would be the introduction to the other passengers and the serving staff at our table in the MDR.

Ended up really enjoying all our meals and dining experience in the Black Crab.

Ah, lots of little chicklets then, we had that too, loved it. So really, it's up to you to decide what's most important, 1st night in the MDR to meet other cruisers and wait staff or a sail away party to remember forever.

You can't really go wrong, you'll still meet your tablemates the next night and you'll be able to enjoy sailaway at your leisure. NO loss.

Make it your cruise, enjoy it your way.

All the best,

I enjoy the sail away. Because Divina sails at 7pm, I am planning on skipping dinner in the MDR on the first night.

How many of you have skipped dinner in the MDR to enjoy the sail away?

We never do, what's the big deal with sail away?

Depends on the port. Sailing out of NYC always draws a huge crowd, passing the Freedom Tower and lower Manhattan, Ellis Island, Miss Liberty, going under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and then passing Coney Island. It's especially exciting to first time visitors.

This will be our first cruise out of Miami and with an evening sail away, I'm sure it will be pretty with all the city lights, so we'd definitely like to be on deck to see it. We will just go with the flow and eat whenever it fits into our evening. Luckily, we don't have a set dining time.

I have been thinking about the same thing! We are sailing in June with our family (16 of us). My husband and I booked Fantastica and have early dining since we have 3 young children. We have never sailed away in the evening and would love to see it (sunset, city lights, etc). Since we would technically be in dinner during this time, I figured we'd miss the first night and have dinner in another venue. We have a balcony booked, so it will be nice to have a view of everything from our room with our kids. We typically go to the the lido deck because we like to mingle, but we'll see what we feel up to this year.

Thanks for asking about this! Nice to hear what others have done.
